Working through the worlds

Hello everybody.

Well, first week of full filming done. Sort of. Kind of.

Hello everybodey.ewed Mishima San from Lilii Kaona. He's a brilliant producer, and he really opened up everything about what he does and what it's like to produce an idol group. He then invited me to a Lilii Kaona MV shoot next week, and also I will be interviewing the girls in Lilii Kaona next week and filming their dance practice. How cool is that?

Immediately after interviewing Mishima san all day, I ran off to Shibuya to meet with Miku and Kajiwara from Nanomoral. I love these two.... they are good people. The best people. And Miku's million dollar smile for miles is guaranteeed to make you forget everything in the whole world when you see her perform live. I thought I would share a picture of her, standing outside of the interview space I rented, on an outer walkway balcony, just as the sun was fully going down into the chalky pastel blue night sky hanging over Shibuya.

My issues are still with focusing. I don't use auto-focus, so it takes some time to really nail focus and even then, I feel I can do ten times a better job. The problem is movement... my subjects keep going in and out of the focus area, so I keep having to re-adjust... this is something I need to fix and fast. But overall, I would say I kept things okay. It just takes time to focus and knowing your aperture settings and overall exposure and what you need to do to keep focus the whole time you are shooting. I'm definitely not there yet lol.

Oh, and I filmed some of Hanako San's live concert last night and other shenanigans, including her doing a destroy cheki on some unlucky foreign fan. It was pure Hanako evil gold, as you could call it.

Tomorrow I have A Necroma live. Saturday too. Then another really solid week of filming!

Can all of you do me a favor? This is getting expensive. Especially because I might be getting another two idol groups to be part of the documentary who I ran into the other day and who wants to be in the documentary. It's about 200 dollars per interview for me... so... yeah... if you can help me with at least the next four interviews, that would be incredible. If not, don't sweat it. Keep enjoying my work I'm doing and posting here to discuss. Thanks so much for your patreonage too. I hope you enjoy!

wait... say that again? Or do you have a youtube vid or something I can see this trick? That seems like an easy enough thing to do... I wonder if that would work? My other problem is movement during lives and stuff.... I feel like my subjects just keep going out of focus because they move out of the focus plain so much... so I'm not sure how to do that either. And I like lower F Stops because of the bokeh you get... it's amazing. So... yeah, trying to figure this out lol

A trick that I used for focus, it may work for your lenses too. Zoom in as much as you can and set focus manually. When you zoom out the focus should be good enough for all distances. When you zoom in you always have correct focus when it is needed the most.

Last one :) this guy explains aperture and depth of field and mentions the exact problem you are having. High F number -bigger depth of field - everyone in focus :) good luck mate - http://www.thevideomode.com/tuition/how-to-use-a-lenss-aperture-when-shooting-video-246/?jwsource=cl

Rather than shoot manual, shoot with aperture priority mode and go for a reasonably high aperture, that will give you more depth of field, The aperture you currently have will give a very narrow depth of field, which is why they are out of focus very easily. Best of luck!

Hi Derek, utube - Panasonic Lumix GH5 guide + personal configuration is a long but good watch. I can see you have an aperture dial behind the still picture button on the right side of the camera. This is a very good vid to explain shutter speed, aperture and ISO on video - https://youtu.be/sMEnDA2DAic

You want a deep depth of field, high F number to get a big area in focus.

I copied the last paragraph from the Internet :) so if you have the F number high then you will have a larger depth of field meaning everything will remain in focus

Yes, the lower the F number i.e. f1.6 compared th f3.5 the shallower the depth of field. The depth of field is the area that remains in focus and increases with the higher aperture 3.5 etc. So if you are on 1.6, 1.8 etc. Then the subjects in focus are very shallow. The f-stops work as inverse values, such that a small f/number (say f/2.8) corresponds to a larger or wider aperture size, which results in a shallow depth of field; conversely a large f/number (say f/16) results in a smaller or narrower aperture size and therefore a deeper depth of field.

You would think that, but the f1.3 seems to make it harder to stay in focus... it does create a great shallower depth of field, but the person in my field of view pops out of focus every time I get the person out of the focus area.... the depth of field still stays the same. I have a Lumix GH5... I think I need to keep practicing! It's all good. You help me just by being here and caring and helping me every month. Thank you!

f1.3 is the aperture number. The lower the aperture the shallower the depth of field ( in focus) you have a lumix yes? Which model. I will see if I can find a copy of the instructions. Maybe I can help.

I am using it in cinema movie making mode.So aperture and shutter priority are for when taking pictures. I am using complete manual focusing with back button auto-focus to pop things into focus if possible... the problem is my field of focus seems to small sometimes and people keep popping in and out of focus. Particularly when I'm down at the f1.3 range. Help? lol

Is the camera aperture or shutter priority? or you use it completely manual?
