I still believe that when Jack says "because I needed to bury him", deep down he feels a debt for not being able to bury his father and that is why he buried the marshal and did not burn him along with the other bodies. That's what I feel, there can be many other interpretations.

2023-10-19 15:23:11 +0000 UTCI think Kate is such a dynamic and complex character. Yes she makes such aggravating choices but she always has reasons for them. I believe the writers wanted Kate to be the main character originally, but then they put Jack in that role. Thanks for posting!
