So a few things: (1) The reason they had to remove Walt from the series was because they cast the young kid for a show that spanned a 108 day time period. I couldn't tell you this before, even though you kept asking where Walt was. It was very frustrating! But now that you've seen him you understand. Basically, up until the oceanic six leave the island it's only been 108 days in the show, but 4 years in the real world. So the actor who played Walt aged four years. Which means he grew a bunch of inches, his voice dropped, and he went through puberty. It was sort of a fuck up by the producers that they didn't plan for that. So they had to write him out at the end of season 2 to cover the fact that he was aging. But now that in the flash forwards 3 years have gone by they were able to bring him back. (2) Jack did see his dad on the island way back in season 1. A vision of his father led him to the caves which is how they got water. (3) Daniel is nervous about not being able to get anyone else to the boat in time because he knows Ben is headed to the Orchid. He knows what the Orchid does because it's in his notebook - it has to do with moving things in space and time. Dan is worried that whoever doesn't come with him to the freighter on this run is not going to make it off the island. (4) I am always continuously angry at how drunk Jack in earlier episode referred to how Sawyer "made his choice" and "decided to stay" when in this episode we clearly see that Sawyer jumped from the helicopter to take some weight off so they all could make it. I get that they framed it that way so it would be misleading, but drunk Jack is an asshole.

Part 3 is glorious, Season 5 is - by far - the best season of this or any show, ever. You're not ready Mike. Can't wait to see your reaction to it.
