I also believe another explanation for John's rationale might be explained in a future episode. Johann might be right, and/or the character in the future epi might be right. Like a lot of things in Lost, the producers want to have us make up our own minds on character decisions sometimes.

Lee, Jon explains it at minute 28. For him the island is a special place and the fact that people can come and go, communicate with the outside world is hypocrisy. From his point of view, no one should leave or arrive to the island.

I don't see why Locke wanted to blow up the sub. If people came to rescue them he could just run into the jungle and live as he wants. His choices seem to make no sense. He's trying to reason with a man he knows can't be trusted.

Nailed the reaction! I know I'm probably in the minority, but my favorite seasons are 3 and 6 (on re-watch). The tattoo episode should be forgotten because almost every other episode is fire.....Eko dies in 3-5, Juliet's backstory in 3-7, Desmond's ring lady in 3-8, we get the answer to how Locke ended up in a wheelchair in 3-13.....three of my favorite episodes of all the series are later this year....all the seasons are great but season 3 for me is THE watch.
