The Japanese hoped that US air reconnaissance would take it for a real Japanese encampment and bomb it, instead of their real base. I learned a lot about this series and Band of Brothers from a great YouTube channel, Reel History. You might want to check out the episodes you have already watched. The host has a Marine Historian with him as they comment on aspects of the Pacific series. The historian host also did a great review of each Band of Brothers episode.
