Pirate Treasure Mod (Public Release)

Pirate Treasure is my take on treasure maps and buried treasure chests. Because beachcombing isn't quite lucrative enough.

WHAT THIS MOD DOES
It adds a new type of treasure map, named 'Pirate Treasure Map', that is labeled with a location that refers to a specific Base Game or Island Living neighborhood. If you travel to that neighborhood, then click on the appropriate Pirate Treasure Map in your inventory, your Sim will search for and find a dirt pile to dig up and find a Pirate Treasure chest.

Opening the chest will give your Sim three or more Sulani treasure items, as well other potential bonuses if they have the Collector or Treasure Hunter trait.

HOW TO FIND A PIRATE TREASURE MAP
You can find a pirate treasure map by beachcombing, digging up random dirt or sand piles in any region, diving for treasure in the ocean in Sulani (you can also find a sunken treasure chest this way), or exploring the cave near Mua Pel'am in Sulani. Also, pirate treasure chests that you find and open may have another pirate treasure map inside them. You can also buy the maps in build/buy mode if you just want to see how it works (though maps are cheaper than the treasure you find from them, so you can turn a profit even if you buy the map).

HOW TO FIND THE TREASURE FOR A MAP
Each pirate treasure map is labeled in the tooltip with a Location label that indicates where the treasure can be found. This location will be a specific Base Game or Island Living neighborhood.

To find the treasure, you go to any lot in the neighborhood indicated on the map, click on the map in your inventory and select Find Pirate Treasure. NOTE: Your sim will need to be outside in order to do this.

Your Sim will look around for a moment, then a dirt pile will appear and your Sim will walk over to it. You can then dig up the dirt pile to find the treasure chest. Open it, and your Sim will receive the treasure inside.

What is a neighborhood?
In case you haven't noticed it before, each cluster of lots in each region is labeled with a neighborhood name. You can view them by clicking on the little neighborhood icons on the map.  You can walk between each of the lots in a neighborhood, such as within Willow Creek's Foundry Cove or San Myshuno's Spice District, but you cannot walk between different neighborhoods. This mod uses references to all 19 Base Game plus Island Living neighborhoods, including the parks and hidden lots, as locations for buried treasure.

Change Log:

Note to patrons who grabbed the preview:
This is the same code as 1.0.0, just repackaged for public release.

Comments

This mod relies on the XML Injector which was throwing exceptions after the patch until the recent update to 4.2. It is available here by clicking Download: https://scumbumbomods.com/xml-injector/ I just checked it myself, and once I updated the XML Injector, it worked without errors (and found pirate maps, chests, etc). You can use my email if you need to send me a file or something. it's here: simsonianlibrary@gmail.com .

I can't remember if this is the mod I tried using before or I stumbled upon another treasure one but I really love the idea of this. Is this still compatible? Also I don't know if you saw my other comment but my last exceptions were different than yours. I did see however that many other mods was upated again so I'm hoping maybe it was because of other mods I believe that's a thing idk lol but I"m going to update stuff again and see if I get the error. Is there a more convenient way to contact you?

it's great to hear that people still enjoy this mod! I know it's one of my fallbacks when a sim needs a little cash to pay the rent, lol. I've been thinking of where I might go with it for awhile. I want to add all of the streets as map destinations. There are 92 of them, so I've been looking for a more streamlined way to handle it than the way I am now, but I have some ideas about that now. I like the idea of more variety in the stuff you find. I'm not sure I can come up with entirely theme-appropriate chests and treasure, but there are a lot of possibilities. I'll keep that in mind -- after I read your comment, I picked up the code for it and started thinking about it again. Thanks for the feedback!

Hi there! I just wanted to say how much I love your Pirate Treasure mod [and all of your other A+ gameplay mods] —it's such a creative and immersive idea! I've been using it while playing a story-heavy Sims save, and it's added a wonderful layer of exploration. I was wondering if you might be open to a quick question or two about how it works behind the scenes? I'm experimenting with a themed gameplay setup inspired by a strange blend of Planescape:: Torment and Baldur’s Gate 3 (I can't access my main gaming rig right now, so I'm doing a fantasy-style playthrough in The Sims instead). Your mod is already a great fit, and I’d love to build on it a little if it's feasible. My hope is to: * Add custom CC items (some usable, some decorative) as randomized loot inside the treasure chests. * Use different types of chests to give a little more variety Is it possible to use more varied objects as loot and use different chests [to have the aesthetic of the chest match the lot/world/neighborhood]? I’d completely understand if it’s complex or if certain parts are hardcoded—I’m just curious about how you approached it and whether a variation like this might work. Thanks so much for your time, and again, amazing work on the mod! It really enhances exploration in a fun, CRPG-like way.
