When We All Lived in Houses - Cover Preview

When I'm asleep, my Story Machine idles away, working on ideas I probably won't have time for.

Last night, this happened.

*

Sometime in the future, a disaster has wiped out all the adults. The oldest people left in the community are just in their late 20s and remember fleeing the cities when they were children.

Whatever killed the grown-ups is still around. If you drink or swim in water coming from the old places, you may die of something that has symptoms resembling rabies. It's quick, painful and terrifying.

Two teenagers who were toddlers during the Leaving are now in the throes of puberty. The girl wants the leader of their society. The boy wants to do something that will make her fall in love with him.

It gets complicated.

Great cover and concept. Looking forward to reading it.

So did I, but in reruns, cause I went to college on the nights TOS was on. :)

Hmm. I think echoes of Miri might have gotten into my sleeping brain, along with some scraps from Larry Niven's Known Universe series about a colony of children on one of the outer planet moons. It's all connected. :)

Yeah the name of the episode was Miri but I had to look it up. I hate to say it but I watched them all in the 60’s when they originally aired on TV.

Julia Miller

I remember Star Trek TOS where they landed on a wrecked planet and there were only children living feral there. Turns out they were hundreds of years old, but when they finally reached puberty they would die like all of the adults. Of course the Enterprise team is infected too.

Sounds Interesting. Made me think of Miri from Star Trek TOS. Now I'm gonna have to watch that.

Looks epic, Ms. Joyce. By the way, the mention of aleph_2, ordinarily makes me think about ordinals and cardinals. And that makes me think of The St. Louis Cardinals, who are having an awful season so far. A weird example of the Continuum Hypothesis. I'm half-awake. Hugs...
