Sisko was always playing politics - he assessed what he knew about the man and decided showing he was a man of character would resonate more than trading a single favor. Sisko is a strong, self aware, leader. Three dimensional chess.

2024-05-13 05:39:56 +0000 UTCI came in this week going "oh I can't wait to see Robbie and Garrett's reaction to that scene with everyone in Kira's quarters!!" as it's always been one of my favourites, maybe THE favourite individual scene, from the show. The dialogue, the timing, the comedy, the fact that they have almost everyone there, it's all just perfectly done. So to find out the behind the scenes story from Armin about how they rehearsed and shot it was just incredible!! Truly a masterpiece. Also, I'm surprised no one commented about how ridiculous it is that Starfleet cites the Prime Directive as a reason to leave Bajor to their civil war. Like, we know the strategic importance of the wormhole and how dangerous it would be to leave the station in the hands of the Cardassians. It really don't feel like a situation where they would just leave the Bajorans to it when Sisko already says he has evidence that the situation is being engineered by the Cardassians. But then we wouldn't have the dramatic "I guess some of us won't quite be done by the time they get here" cliffhanger ending.

2024-05-12 14:20:00 +0000 UTCI really appreciate Armin’s additions here! And I love all your digressions. Thanks for sharing your stories. (And we can tell Terry is not here since Robbie is chewing the gum!)

2024-05-11 12:29:29 +0000 UTCAgreed - it was so brilliantly written and performed. And the look they all give Kira when Bariel arrives! 😄

2024-05-11 07:10:08 +0000 UTCI love how Armin has loosened up and is joking around more and providing so much great context to some of these episodes. There’s such clear camaraderie now between everyone. I know it’s normal on team to go from storming to norming, and you all are definitely performing. Love all these episodes. Keep up the great work.

2024-05-09 22:12:58 +0000 UTCRDM: "We only had 2 or 3 two part episodes on Voyager. Reality: 12 two part episodes including the pilot. Come on man. Situation: Armin just found out that he going to be a regular on a Star Trek show something that he has stated he has dreamed about for a long time because he loves Star Trek so much. Question: Why don't you have your copy of EVERY script? If I were on Star Trek, I would not only keep my copy of every script of every episode, but would also beg, borrow or steal other copies from my fellow actors as time went on. Fantastic keep sakes for any actor on any show, especially if you are a big fan of the show you are on. Even if not, knowing how popular Star Trek is, great source of potential income selling the scripts down the road. The behind the scenes story about the scene in Kira's quarters is EXACTLY what I was looking for when I joined up with Delta Flyers in the beginning. We have had some of this type of information since the run started but it seems to taper off as time goes by and then is hit or miss. Ideally, I would like a story of this nature on every episode review but understand that a great amount of time has past and a lot of details about filming are fuzzy or forgotten.

2024-05-07 18:43:18 +0000 UTCI agree with Robbie - that scene in Kira’s quarters is one of my favorite scenes from the entire series. Such a memorable scene - it’s something that we don’t see on Star Trek.

2024-05-07 16:41:34 +0000 UTCDoesn't Armin/Quark have a dream sequence later on in the show where he imagines Rom being the 'first Grand Nagus' or something like that?

2024-05-06 19:35:39 +0000 UTCGot to re-watch "The Circle" last night to prepare for the podcast. Agreed with Robbie and Garrett's impression that Kira's farewell entourage scene was like a stage play and was really amazed to learn from Armin that this scene was rehearsed like a stage play and that it was shot completely in almost less than an hour or two the next day. I really like the moment in the scene where Kira introduces Bareil to the DS9 crew as "her friends", that shows how much her opinion of her non-Bajoran co-workers (minus Quark) has changed from acrimonious to pure respect. The scene where Odo commissions Quark as deputy by force was one of the funniest exchanges the “Odd Couple” of DS9 has ever had. The comedic timing was excellent and loved the contrast between Quark’s effervescent glib and Odo’s no-nonsense remarks. This morning, I looked up the word “Navrach” (Li Nalas’ rank during his time as the liaison officer) and was surprised to discover that a Narvach, which is a religious title outside the command structure of the Bajoran Militia, actually came from the Greek word “Navarchos” which means “leader of the ships” or “admiral”. So… it seems Li Nalas is ranked as a Bajoran Admiral in this episode. Mind-Blowing. Liked the fact that Professor Shimerman had the script of this episode and his analysis of various scenes such as the loop group’s possible dialogue in Kira’s vision, it proved to be very useful and added more depth to the episode. Nice shout out by Robbie to Kitty and Armin and the recent PurpleStride walk for PanCAN. I was there at the event, walking for their team, Trek Against Pancreatic Cancer and had a fun time! It was great seeing them both there at such an inspiring event. I maybe asking for too much, but I hope that Professor Shimerman stays on for the next podcast of the third part, “The Siege”. He’s been part of the last two podcasts of the two parts of the Li Nalas/The Circle Storyline and it’s would be consistent if he’s featured one more time... And it's my birthday next week and I hope my mentor's there when Robbie and Garrett do the birthday role call.

2024-05-06 19:33:43 +0000 UTCThat scene in Kira's quarters is hilarious and worth every penny on the way the director rehearsed it as a stage play. The acting was phenomenal and it worked brilliantly. Do we see that type of complexity in todays shows?

2024-05-06 19:14:03 +0000 UTCLouise Fletcher made Winn one of my top five villains of all time. Her lines and delivery are just delicious…odd word I know. Hehehe. Oh and DJ Umox would be my choice

2024-05-06 17:12:12 +0000 UTCI disagreed with all three guys’ comments about the scene between Kira and Bariel before she views the orb. However, I know about the romance, and I can’t remember if my response all those years ago was to think this is creepy. I just feel like they were being tentative with each other and looking for signs in the other that some attraction is there.

2024-05-06 13:31:10 +0000 UTCQuark would have been in charge of all the trading Voyager needed to do. He would've needed to work with Neelix who knew some of the species at first. I think he would've been pretty proactive.

2024-05-06 12:42:30 +0000 UTCFYI, all the DS9 shooting scripts are archived online at https://www.st-minutiae.com/resources/scripts. All the TNG ones are there too. Sadly, barely any Voyager or Enterprise scripts are there.

2024-05-06 12:36:25 +0000 UTCExcellent themes by all. Oh Benjamin, you sweet summer child. You were born for subtext and leveraging whatever you need to accomplish your mission. I suppose you haven’t done that with military commanders… yet… but you know the values of favors. On Kira & Bareil: I picked up on the romance as mutual straight away. I think he had an orb vision that drove him to the station to get Kira and not just for nookie. I think it’s why he’s so vague. And it comes with the philosophical bent. I was not confused - he knows she’s important to Bajor and to him personally - he’s tiptoeing his way to not overly influence but guide her to her direction from the prophets (and hopefully to him as well, but that is secondary). Garrett is right about the Star Wars vibe in the Winn/Jaro scene. It had the gravitas of momentous decisions. And I absolutely LOVED the Kira goodbye theme. It reminded the audience that we CARE about this family. Quark’s ’It’s a party!’ Was pitch perfect. Finally, Sisko is worried about Kira’s life - so he’s aloud to be snappish about Quark discussing compensation right at that moment. And Quark is already in Sisko’s debt from some of last year’s looking the other way (again, Sisko knows how to maneuver). So I wasn’t offended by Quark being hushed. And I wasn’t offended by Quark asking - that’s Quark being Quark.
