That’s exactly right for classical Latin - but in ecclesiastical (or “church”) Latin the pronunciation became altered to ‘ay’ as in ‘hay’ (e.g. “in saecula saeculorum”) - so no wonder everyone was confused about it

2024-05-25 19:34:32 +0000 UTCI always thought each sphere (because there were multiple) was a different person (hence different personae). So Sisko got the mad-Nero-like ruler (who was building a clock while DS9 ‘burned’), O’Brien got ‘Nero’s’ right-hand man, Kira got the main rebel, Bashir got someone political, Jadzia got someone lukewarm and senile. Whoever went to sodo must have transferred to the Bajoran assassin. These individuals kept reliving their conflict through different beings. But there were plot holes a plenty. Example: Did they ALL glom onto the one a Klingon who escaped? So, fun to watch but not really vital.

2024-04-18 16:13:42 +0000 UTC(And while I certainly learned to pronounce “Munich” as its German “München” while *in* Germany, most people who aren’t German don’t know I’m talking about the place they know as “Munich,” so no, I don’t say it the correct German way when I’m talking to folks in the states. 🤷🏻♀️

2024-04-15 20:36:30 +0000 UTCI mean, varying pronunciations happen just within the US, regionally, let alone how Germans vs UK/North Americans pronounce, say, Munich. But the different way northerners vs southerners vs westerners pronounce, say, “pecan” isn’t because some regions are saying it incorrectly , it’s just the region one is from and their baseline speaking accent. Two ways of pronouncing “Bajor” or “sensors” doesn’t mean anyone is doing it incorrectly, and it causes no confusion to the viewer (unlike pronouncing duterium as dutronium, etc). We all have our pet peeves, but I think two pronunciations of common words could be let go, given we hopefully don’t tell everyone who pronounces “pecan pie” the way we don’t that they’re wrong! 😊

2024-04-14 19:28:26 +0000 UTCThings seem a little out of place Unfamiliar attitude from each familiar face Ben cherishes a clock like it's a pendant And Kira acts like a certain Intendent So Odo blows some glowy stuff into space

2024-04-12 23:43:27 +0000 UTCI want to say that Dax was behaving weired due to her having a symbiote. And with that in mind my guess is that the symbiote cannot be taken over by somthing that's controlling its hosts mind. And with THAT in mind, she is not entirely taken over by whatever it is trying to controll her mind. Thus having Dax act differently then the rest who are fully under the controll of this entity.

2024-04-11 20:57:43 +0000 UTCI think it should have been a two part episode. There were too many pieces that didn’t make real sense and needed a little extra exposition although it was a fun episode anyway. For example, the idea of having a B plot is a winner that the writers could have used the extra time to develop. The clock itself had lots of possibilities that just were not explored. You all named some. Kira’s PTSD might have included a little more exploration, too, and a two-parter could have included crazy station antics like at Quark’s. Morn could have done something! I can’t remember where the children were.

2024-04-11 15:36:17 +0000 UTCThese was the weakest show of the season so far for me. I really wanted to see why Sisko was building the clock, or why is Jadzia playing a senile character - they needed to show what parts they were playing in regards to the original conflict.

2024-04-11 06:40:50 +0000 UTCI always thought Jadzia seemed out of it because she distracted by talking to Dax, the symbiont,so shes laughing at an inside (literally) joke :p

2024-04-10 20:03:02 +0000 UTCPersonae is plural, like antennae. How do you pronounce antennae? “Ae” ending in Latin is pronounced like “i.” Per-son-eye. Thanks for attending my Ted Talk.

2024-04-10 16:18:31 +0000 UTCThis episode deserved an 8.5! Everybody's performances were SO entertaining and so different from what we are used to. Yeah the actual story might have been a bit "huh, what?" but I found it so fun.

2024-04-09 22:44:45 +0000 UTCNana's performance in this episode seems like a "test run" for a role she'll be playing in a few future episodes. The seductions she uses ESPECIALLY but other, subtle things about "mutiny mode" Kira just made my mind immediately think of her future performances as a certain character.

2024-04-09 20:20:36 +0000 UTCBest RDM dirty quote of the podcast: "he's giving the Bajoran a little pricky thing". 2nd best RDM dirty quote of the podcast: "I'm going to give you my limerick right now". I echo comments from RDM in that my main problem with this episode is that it is just another rehashing/ripoff of the old "what if our characters got to act out of character because of something was making them act that way". Just in Star Trek alone we have about 5 ST: TOS episodes where various members of the crew get taken over by something including Return to Tomorrow where they are still fighting an old war just like in this episode. ST:TNG has "Power Play" in the 5th season and ST:VOY will have "The Killing Game" parts 1 and 2. They are all the same or a variation on the same theme. I agree that everything in the cargo bay should have been blown out by explosive decompression. See ST:TNG S5 Ep5 "Disaster" for what it should have looked like. Comments on why Bashir is in Ops reminds me of what I think when I watch every TOS episode and wonder 1. Why Dr. McCoy is ALWAYS on the bridge and 2. Why is he always yelling at Kirk or Spock? He is a very unlikable character and was not a favorite of mine from watching as a child until now. Disagree about Torres on the bridge as EVERY engineer in EVERY ST Show was on the bridge except Enterprise. There is an Engineering substation on the bridge just for that fact. Scotty, LaForge and Torres used those stations. Terry's comment about "Our Man Bashir" because there will be an episode called just that in Season 4.

2024-04-08 09:29:25 +0000 UTCThe Klingons are a different species so their brain chemistry would not be the same as ours. so it's completely plausible that they have cells that are different to ours. Or maybe the name of the cells was an untranslated Klingon word?

2024-04-08 04:26:33 +0000 UTC"Dramatis Personnae" was a weird but riveting episode. I felt so bad for Quark after Kira attacked and injured him (one of the reasons why I wanted to lock horns with Kira - Quark is one of my favorite DS9 characters, for he cracks me up). The scene where Quark walks into Odo's office wearing a neck brace was sad and hilarious at the same time. I was rooting for Odo and was glad he solved the mystery of the hostile energy possessing the crew and vanquished the energy before irreparable harm can be done. I wish there was an additional scene where we see Major Kira really feeling ashamed of her actions and is talking to Dax about her reluctance to face Sisko. I also wish there was another scene with Quark getting his neck-brace removed by Dr. Bashir or getting his compensation. #JusticeforQuark During Garrett, Terry and Robert's conversation about different animal groups (murder of crows, etc.) I liked Terry Farrell's comment about ravens being scary-looking and ominous. Ravens have been mentioned in a lot of gothic literature, including poetry by Edgar Allen Poe. The mention of ravens also reminded me of the time I saw wild ravens for the first time at the Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona. They were big and looked intimidating (not so much for my golden retriever, Stella).
