I've never really heard any Star Trek show described as a "kid show" (other than when Garrett has said it). I know some older kids/teens who like it but i think my kids would find most of the episodes too intense (my oldest is 11). My parents were always the ones watching Trek when I was a kid and I mostly hated it until Voyager came along.

2024-04-25 03:40:17 +0000 UTCI actually like Colm Meany better on DS9 than TNG. DS9 turned him from a very good actor into an incredible one.

2024-04-03 05:14:17 +0000 UTCRe. The comment about DS9 being nicer than Voyager to strange life forms like the pup - can I point out that Janeway’s REHABILITATED A BORG. Catch Sisko doing that 😂

2024-03-31 01:42:13 +0000 UTCIn Season 3’s premiere “The Search” Odo showed up at the docking door with his pale before going into the Gamma Quadrant.

2024-03-29 23:29:00 +0000 UTCI understand why Armin might had disliked having TNG characters show up in 1st season but I don’t think its because the producers and writers didn’t believe in the cast. I think they wanted to bring in more fans to watch an incredible show that had so much potential and was just getting started. Also what I love about the MCU is seeing the in-universe characters interact with each other. I do agree though that some Trek recurring characters work better in some fellow Trek series crossover then others. Q’s character did not work well in DS9 but he did fit much better in Voyager. Lt Barclay also fit well into Voyager. Lwaxnna Troi worked really on DS9 with Odo.

2024-03-29 23:25:24 +0000 UTCI liked the juxtaposition of the computer issues (a petulant computer, not voiced by Majel Barrett) and bringing Majel in as Lwaxana Troi in the same episode. It would have been funny/meta if they could have worked in an instance where Lwaxana commented on the computer's behavoir.

2024-03-28 02:23:48 +0000 UTCThank you for the Yoda uber driver story Garrett! Fantastic!!! What would Kamal do?

2024-03-27 11:04:00 +0000 UTCTOTALLY agree with Garrett on Enterprise. Totally disagree with Armin about Worf, an excellent additin to DS9.

2024-03-27 11:01:21 +0000 UTCWay to much time spent on Odo’s pail and tracking to “catch mistakes”…it’s not that serious guys. Please don’t make this the photon torpedo issue! Odo is an amazing character and his story is super entertaining and Rene is magnificent!

2024-03-27 10:45:18 +0000 UTCOdo's pail is just a convenient place so he doesn't spread across the entire floor while regenerating (or you could call it resting). Odo generally didn't shapeshift much so holding that shape for a long time is tiring. The same as you muscles get tired after you work hard.

2024-03-26 18:49:32 +0000 UTCI read on Memory Alpha that Anara was intended to return, but instead they introduce a new character in her place.

2024-03-26 11:48:04 +0000 UTCYes, Kira was a terrorist, and the Bajorans won. So that means they commissioned her into the military as a Major.

2024-03-26 11:17:28 +0000 UTCKira wears a Bajoran military uniform.

2024-03-26 11:13:14 +0000 UTCI find it hard to watch Lwaxana episodes across all Trek shows even tho she is a fantastic character - my blood boils at the way she's characterised as a full on 'thirsty', who's too outspoken, too 'full-on' and generally mocked to lesser or greater degree by all characters - the misogyny directed at an older woman with a bit of substance who flaunts her sexuality is too much. Picard's got issues with Lwaxana thirsting over him cos he can't actually imagine hooking up a woman the same age as him as opposed to someone 20 years younger! So I was pleased to see the eye-rolling directed at her turned down a bit on DS9, and we got to see her as a well-rounded character sooner than we did in TNG.

2024-03-26 09:39:44 +0000 UTCKind of shocked and disappointed that you all stepped over Majel Barrett and went to how well-known Constance Towers was? Majel Barrett, the first lady of Star Trek, the original Number One, the original Christine Chapel. She played Lwaxana Troi brilliantly in Next Generation and Deep Space Nine. I can go on and on…I was a little bit dismayed that you guys went right into the episode. Hopefully as I listen further, there will be more about Majel Barrett.
ChrisB
2024-03-26 03:13:18 +0000 UTCJust a guess, but Armin mentions an episode where the Odo character doesn’t have to regenerate. He might be thinking episode 5:9, The Ascent, where he and Rene are stranded on a planet and have to climb a mountain to send a signal. That was a period where Odo had been deprived of his shape shifting ability due to killing a changeling. Love the podcast!

2024-03-25 23:03:43 +0000 UTCTiny tiny typo in the audio/video ep description, 2nd paragraph: Shimerman missing an "h" ...Wouldn't want you to get a call from Armin's agent! 😆
Matt
2024-03-25 19:19:49 +0000 UTCHi Emily, yes Armin had an issue with his mic for the first 5 mins of this episode. But it was noticed and quickly resolved, you should notice a big improvement at about the 5 min mark.

2024-03-25 18:29:16 +0000 UTCJust a heads up in case it affects others: I’m four minutes in, but am really struggling to hear Armin this week 😢 Admittedly I am partially deaf, but have never struggled this much before with your podcasts. I listen on Apple Podcasts, and they have just started providing a transcript option, which I’m finding extremely useful for the odd missing words. Unfortunately it’s not an option for The Delta Flyers. If there is any way of you enabling that, it would be a huge help. Otherwise I’ll probably just have to skip this one, and wait for next week. Please keep up the good work, though!

2024-03-25 18:18:10 +0000 UTCOn Majel being the person who brought the casts together: she also went on B5 to "quash the beef," as it were, after meeting JMS at a sci fi convention. Edit: Also it's not an away mission but Odo does take his pail on the Defiant, iirc.
