I appreciate how Armin knows his stuff , like he watched the series more than once , like I have .

Sisko showed up because the ambassadors were there

Constance

Not all trills are joined. The ambassador of Volcan would know that

Constance

Pairing Lwaxana and Odo was a stroke of genius. It’s not an obvious dynamic and yet it worked beautifully. The best part of Lwaxana is her ability to shift her interaction from silly to sublime in an instant. She’s always shown great sensitivity at just the right moment. And she was able to get Odo to trust her! Definitely the sign of an excellent ambassador. The pup story was good, Odo’s story was great. 8.2

SnazzyO

EXACTLY. To dive even deeper, later we learn Odo is more comfortable in certain shapes. The pail 🪣 is probably one of his ‘comfort’ shapes.

SnazzyO

Same thought re that turbo lift being lethal! And made me think of the Paternoster lift at the university I worked at a couple years ago (look up YouTube, ‘The Paternoster: Europe’s doorless elevator’ to see how they work). One of only two still operating in the UK and I’m amazed it’s not been shut down as it’s a lawsuit waiting to happen. 😂

Sarah Allen

Yay, a return of Rebecca's drawings! Thank you! 💕

I loved the TOS episode Naked Time when they lose all their inhibitions and Nurse Chapel tells Spock she loves him. It made Strange New Worlds perfect in the way they did the backstory on that relationship. I found myself clapping at times.

Suzanne Hollifield Eller

The ending was horrible. The show never got the writing it deserved IMO. The actors were good, but there were always weird aliens that never showed up in any future Star Treks with no reason given for their extinction after Enterprise. Great concept they just let fizzle.

Happy birthday

Suzanne Hollifield Eller

I’ve watched this episode numerous times from when it was first aired until today before listening to the podcast. I always think that. It would have made more sense even this early in the series to develop this aspect of Odo’s difference. It helps the audience feel empathy for him.

Suzanne Hollifield Eller

Also, a really weird sidetrack hyper-analyzing Odo's pail. It's not that he can ONLY regenerate in the pail, or that the pail is the best vehicle for that regeneration, it's just where Odo prefers to be. In the privacy of his office, in his pail. It's his only possession at this point. You might like your bed, and prefer your bed, but it doesn't mean that you can ONLY sleep in your bed. This is even answered in the episode when Odo successfully regenerates in Lwaxana's dress. Odo's hesitation was due to shame and the awkwardness of him not normally sharing that part of his life with others, not anything to do with an inability to regenerate outside his pail.

Jeremy Sessions

Something I've always wished was different in this episode is when Odo tells Lwaxana that he's in hour 15 of his 16-hour cycle. The reason this is a problem is because he's already clearly in an extreme amount of stress and pain, literally beginning to melt. But he hasn't yet reached the end of his cycle? So he does this every day? Why don't we ever see that again? Humans get tired at the end of the night, sure, and we can see the effects of that. But it just seemed too extreme for only hour 15. If the line had simply been that "I have to regenerate every 16 hours and I'm now in hour 18..." I think that would have made more sense. The reason he's sweating/melting is because he's holding his shape PAST the point he normally would.

Jeremy Sessions

I never put too much thought into the Bajorian uniform colors until after the series ended but I do remember seeing at least a few colors like blue, orange, tan. I don’t remember seeing the purple uniform showing up too often. I can’t recall if there is a green Bajorian uniform.

Christopher Collins

My Birthday was March 29th the same day as Marina Sirtis who portrayed Counselor Deana Troi.

Christopher Collins

I completely agree with Garrett that having TNG characters on the final episode of Enterprise was a horrible thing to do. The cast deserved a better send off, and the fans deserved a story about the Enterprise crew.

Sarah Ettritch

I have been saying Lwaxana’s name for 30+ years. Thank you Armin!

Vicky Thompson

Also, there were puzzled looks about Robbie's mention of the doorbell at Sisko's office. I rewatched to look for it, and Odo does indeed push a button that makes a noise, and then Sisko pushes a button on his console that opens the door.

Cindy Converse

Everything you wanted (or maybe didn't want) to know about Bajoran uniforms: https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Bajoran_Militia_uniform

Cindy Converse

Preach! Yes get over it. Every Star Trek show has characters from previous incarnations. I love it.

ST Fan CB

Hi Peter, because we release the episode on Sunday nights at 10pm here in Mountain time, there are 5 Sunday's in March. Our official release is every Sunday. So, we go by Sunday, not Monday.

Garrett

Fabulous episode as always! A bit confused with the release schedule. I understand that only 4 episodes a month now, so months with 5 weeks there won't be an episode that last week; however, since next Monday is April 1, i'm just confused since Robbie said there would be no episode next week. Thanks for clarifying when you get to it!

peter

The way I see it, maybe Odo regenerated enough to look 100% for a short period of time. He may have needed to go and regenerate again once he was out of the lift. It’s kinda like us when we take a Power nap. It was enough for a short time.

Stevie Moore

Mabel can really pull off the bright hair colors!

Jeffra

Thank you Armin for sharing your experiences with Majel and for your work in Starfield. I felt right at home talking to Walter.

John Overbey

Thank you, Armin, for talking about Majel Barrett ❤️

Marian Bieniek

Yes, I looked it up. Odo turns human (is banished from being a changeling) in S4 E25, the Odo and Quark stranded episode is S5 E9, and he turns back into a changeling in S5 E12 - that tracks :)

Irene Artho

Did he ever get credited as a series regular? I thought they just always had him as a guest star even though he was in what, like 50 episodes or something

Becky Messer

Isn’t the later episode to which Armin is referring (“The Ascent”) during that brief time where Odo is basically cursed to live as a solid?

Becky Messer

So they don’t know Majel played the nurse on TOS?

Carrie McRob

I think that she could and I've always wondered about her motivations. In TNG she was always publicly embarrassing Picard by talking about him having lewd thoughts about her and I always assumed that he did not and she could read that he was not at all interested in her but she chose to play it the way she did because it entertained her to make him squirm like that.

MG

Same when they first brought up the liquid isoliniar rods thing I went and rewatched the scene and... no liquid. It's just odd.

MG

Waaaay down the line I think you’ll figure out more about Odo and his goo form. Just remember he’s never ever been exposed to actual other shape shifters.

Karen Chuplis

Loved hearing about the parties Majel used to host. They sound great fun! Thought the unsung heroes of Trek was a great question too, and we are so lucky to have you guys shouting out and interviewing all these people from behind the scenes who contributed to the making of the show. Thank you for another great episode guys - will miss you next week!

Amy Tudor

I always really enjoy this so and the also Lwaxana turbo loft scenes are some of my favorite in the whole franchise. As I have gotten to Lwaxana’s age, I’ve found an appreciation I never had before for her. This ep, Half a Life (with the amazing David Ogden Steirs -they had SUCH chemistry), Dark Page, all really amazing sides of Lwaxana and Majel.

Karen Chuplis

I’m almost positive she mentions at the bar she can’t read Odo. It’s a big draw I think.

Karen Chuplis

Yeah I think if he regenerates a short time he can hold solid form for a feq more hours. I tihnk that is even a plot point somewhere down the line

Jonathan Beresford

A solid 7.5 for me. I really loved the character development between Odo and Lwuxana Troi. Professor Shimerman's story about Majel Barrett and how she tried to bring the different casts from the many different Star Trek shows together as one big family was amazing, Mrs. Gene Roddenberry really did an astounding effort to make Gene Roddenberry's legacy continue and strive to make Star Trek more than just a franchise, but a familial community supporting and living by the ideals and aspirations upheld by Star Trek. I can see how the DS9 writers saw Odo as a futuristic Marshall Dillon, in how he upholds the law with a firm, just hand and that he has this granite, stoic dignity and yet has a kind and somewhat tender heart.

Nicole Brettell

Of course Kira is wearing a uniform just like ALL the other Bajornan staff wear on the station. She is a Major in the Bajoran Militia of the Bajoran Provisional Government. Former members of the resistance were given the option to join the militia and swear an oath to the BPG which Kira did. OMG, STOP saying that the Isolinear rods have liquid in them! So annoying. Michael Ensign (Vulcan Ambassador) was also in an episode of ST:TNG in the episode "First Contact", an episode of ST:Voy "False Prophets" and an episode of ST:ENT "Stigma". So he guest starred in all 4 "Berman Era" Star Trek shows. Very nice. Jack Shearer will be in another ST:DS9 episode in the 3rd season "Visionary" playing a Romulan. He was also in the movie ST:First Contact playing Admiral Hayes who commands the fleet engaging the Borg. In a moment of foreshadowing, L. Troi says that she never uses "this hair" without the missing broach. If anyone thinks that lizard alien looks like Dobby the Elf from Harry Potter, that person would need to be fitted with glasses. By the way, the underside shot of the station that supposedly "we never see" is a view in every episode's opening credits.

ST Fan CB

The "why the pail?" question comes up later as a point of character development. It's a thing and I'm glad they're wondering about it. Also, I think that Odo needs more time as a liquid (probably at least a few hours) but in my mind the time he spent as a liquid in the turbolift could have been like enough of a "nap" to allow him to hold his form until he can get to his office for proper bucket time.

MG

Garrett talking about his random acts of kindness reminded me of the time he made my Christmas Day! A couple of years ago he liked and commented on one of my Facebook group posts. I had just finished Christmas dinner and was sitting around the table with my family when I got the notification on my phone. I was buzzing the whole rest of the day. Thank you Garrett 🙏🏻☺️

Carole Patterson

When he's on a shuttle, he shouldn't need to bring anything. Can't a replicator just create a bucket? :)

Tim Neumark

notable contributions that is not a principle actor: John De Lancie!!. Andrew Robinson as Garak: but then again he becomes a series regular later on.

Jonathan Beresford

Please! Give over with the cross over stuff. It's nice to see it's all in the same universe. end of story.

Jonathan Beresford

to answer the question "does he take his pail" yes. he takes it with him. Also we've already established the Bajoran day is 26hrs. In a future episode he is restricted from turning into a liquid as a form of torture.

Jonathan Beresford

he didn't get into the pail. he was regenerating in her dress. He doesn't NEED the pail. It's just his bed. in later episodes his uniform does melt as well as his face.

Jonathan Beresford

this.

Jonathan Beresford

Yay love the shout out to Megan and Rebecca, the unsung heroes who provide us tech support when we encounter IT issues on Patreon, Discord, Polly, etc... Thank you for being there for us!!!

Steph Lee

Oh, you figured it out! Hahaha. Phew.

Jeffra

It sounds like Armin is not using his headphones mic? He sounds very far away!

Jeffra

Thank you for the birthday SONG! Wow! And for Armin (because I'm sure he keeps up on all our comments!) I memorized those lines from The Canterbury Tales as well! A long, long, LONG time ago.

Tara

Kira was a Major in the Bajoran Militia. Odo also wears a Bajoran uniform...as do all his Bajoran security officers.
