Added 2024-01-22 05:00:05 +0000 UTCThe Delta Flyers is a weekly podcast hosted by Garrett Wang, Robert Duncan McNeill, Terry Farrell & Armin Shimerman. In each podcast release they will recap and discuss an episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. This week’s episode is Dax.
Dax: Jadzia Dax is accused of a murder that her previous host, Curzon, supposedly committed.

I'm late to the party, but my 2nd daughter was born in 1999. I had dream when I was about 3 months pregnant and in that dream I was calling two little girls inside to eat lunch. My oldest Emily, and the other, I called Jadzia. I wasn't sure if I was having a girl or boy. I actually was thinking of using Natalie. But after the dream and she turned out a girl, I definitely named her Jadzia. :)

2024-11-25 14:10:30 +0000 UTCYou mentioned in this podcast ep, that a lot of people had named their kids after Jadzia. as a adjacent naming thing - i've known a few people who are Trekkies and are also trans, and they really identified with Jadzia Dax as a character. So it makes sense to me that there's quite a few trans Trekkies out there whose chosen name once they've transitioned is Jadzia inspired by the DS9 character - for example DC Comics has a writer called Jadzia Axelrod.

2024-02-08 05:51:22 +0000 UTCOur daughter was called Ezri but she died at a couple of days old (on Christmas Eve a few years ago now). We were debating whether to go for Ezri or Jadzia but we already knew someone with a daughter called Jadzia.

2024-02-07 16:36:13 +0000 UTCCommenting late but had to add, one thing I've never understood about this episode is why they seem to forget that there must already be answers to the questions they're trying to solve - after all, presumably the Trill homeworld has its own laws! They probably have extensive laws about Joined Trill specifically!! It's like the writers were so busy trying to explain the nature of Dax that they forgot there was an entire planet of people who would have already grappled with these questions the first time a Joined Trill committed a crime.

2024-01-30 07:01:58 +0000 UTCTerry said she'd never say symbiAHnt, instead of symbiEHnt, and then she said it shortly after that, lol 😆 🤣

2024-01-30 05:50:12 +0000 UTCAnd this isn't far off from the series premiere where it's pretty clear that Odo feels that Starfleet and it's officers have just been sort of thrust upon him and the Bajorans. He doesn't know Dax and may still resent her presence.

2024-01-29 04:53:14 +0000 UTCI always figured he wasn't going to stop and check if a suspect has hands or tentacles or what. Extremities pretty much covers whatever he might encounter.

2024-01-29 04:46:28 +0000 UTCI LOVE Kira in Sisko’s office ‘it annoys us’ - one of my favorite DS9 moments, great scene.
Constance
2024-01-27 03:03:46 +0000 UTCOdo was also willing to entertain the idea of himself being a murder until the facts laid out his innocence- so I think he is treating Dax the way he treats everyone, including himself - justice is first, emotion is not a factor in the truth.
Constance
2024-01-27 03:00:48 +0000 UTCI liked there there was some reserve rather than full on ‘buddy-buddy’ between Dax and Sisko, because not only are we getting to know the characters but they are getting to re-know each other too. First few episodes Sisko is intellectually telling himself and saying out loud that his friendship is still there, but this episode (through the risk of losing that friendship) is him feeling and truly believing his friendship is still there.

2024-01-25 17:52:54 +0000 UTCI think Odo's motivation is not so much anti-Dax at this point of the series. He's just super pro-justice. That becomes more clear as the series goes on. But from his perspective, if Dax WAS a murderer then he does not respect her. It's not personal for him at all, he abhors the idea of his own personal feelings about Dax, positive or negative, getting in the way of truth and justice.

2024-01-25 16:33:53 +0000 UTCLol Sisko had some early anger issues

2024-01-24 17:07:00 +0000 UTCGood episode! I just joined Patreon last night but have been listening for a few months. I'm on S4 of Voyager even though I did a rewatch by myself during the pandemic. I wish I had known about TDF back then! So happy they are doing DS9. My daughter and I bonded over it in 2016 when she was 15 and this will be my 4th rewatch. I'm excited for those who've never watched it before. Buckle up!

2024-01-23 13:25:55 +0000 UTCMe, too!!! How could they not do that math?? Or did they and tells us something about fertility of women in 22nd/rd century? Still, very odd in my book.

2024-01-23 06:56:26 +0000 UTCI read that one of the items on Dax's shelf was a fertility idol from Raiders of the Lost Ark.

2024-01-23 03:05:43 +0000 UTCIf Keiko's mother is turning 100, how old would she have been when she had Keiko? Keiko seems to be in her thirties. Even if she's in her forties, her mother would have been quite old when she gave birth. That threw me for a loop.
Sarah Ettritch
2024-01-23 03:04:07 +0000 UTCOh gosh. The whole name conversation was so funny. I rarely think to name pets with characters i respect. Of all my pets so far only one, Alfred, was named after a character (by me anyway. Rocky came with his name). But then later when they compare Bashir to a puppy i turned to my new puppy and told her i should have named her "Bashir". She has in fact already bonked her head on a wall for me.

2024-01-23 02:57:06 +0000 UTCYes! Kevin and Rishon! Love that episode

2024-01-22 22:09:34 +0000 UTCThe entire episode feels like Law and Order in Space with a very small Sci-Fi twist. Not a Star Trek episode at all. The charge of treason is ridiculous. A third part mediator cannot commit treason. To commit treason a person would have to betray their own country or government, not someone else's. Espionage would have been a better charge. I feel the ball gavel is a rip off from the metal ball used by Klingon Judges as shown in the movie ST VI The undiscovered Country and an episode from Enterprise. The station gets a wardroom/briefing room in later seasons. I have a cat named Kira although it is not named for the DS9 character. All my children and pets have Irish names and Kira means little dark one in Gaelic as she is a small black cat. Tandro uses improper syntax in Sisko's office. He says "I would like to be on our way". He should have said I would like to be on my way, or we would like to be on our way. Later in the conversation he says to Kira "Our conversation is with the Commander". Why does he keep using the word "our". He is the only one there. Does he have a mouse in his pocket? The issue of whether the host is responsible for the actions of a previous host is sort of revisited in the last couple of seasons when we learn that a previous host of Dax was a straight up murderer. As I posted in the Voyager recaps: this whole 1-10 rating system is useless. With I think one exception, no one ever goes below 5 and rarely below 6. A better system is a 1-5 rating rating system as follows: 5 - One of the best episodes limited to about 2 or 3 per season 4 - Above average really shined in some areas but not the best 3 - Average standard episode 2 - Below average had some issues 1 - One of worst episodes limited to about 2 or 3 per season Fionnula Flanagan was also in an episode of TNG playing Data's mother and an episode of Enterprise playing a Vulcan ambassador. Gregory Itzin played two roles on Enterprise, two roles in DS9 and a role on Voyager as noted.

2024-01-22 08:20:58 +0000 UTCAnne Haney who played the arbiter appeared in one of my favorite early Next Generation episodes, "The Survivors", which (spoiler twist ending) was also about a deep love and loss (and, I suppose, in how someone is remembered after they're gone).
