Comment Rules

Hello all, we have decided to implement some moderating for comments on posts here on Patreon.
This isn't something we wanted to have to do, but, we have had a handful of unkind comments made. We'd like this to be a safe and welcoming place for everyone. So, moving forward, any comments that violate the rules below will be removed by a moderator.  We thank you for your understanding!

Rules:

1. Do not name call, degrade, or be unkind towards our hosts or guests

-Our hosts and guests are doing their best. Any unkind comments about them will be removed.

2. Be Kind and Courteous

-We're all in this together to create a welcoming environment. Let's treat everyone with respect. Healthy debates are natural, but kindness is required.

3. No Hate Speech, Bullying, or Abuse

-Make sure everyone feels safe. Bullying of any kind isn't allowed, and degrading comments about things like race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, personality, intelligence, gender or identity will not be tolerated.

4. Format Opinion Posts In an Open Way

-Please state opinions in a way that does not invalidate others opinions. Opinions are not facts, yours or theirs. Please do not mock anyone for their perspective.

5. Don't pass judgement

-For the most part, we are all strangers here. Please refrain from making judgements or assuming things about people.

6. Treat every person as if they have value.

-Because they do.

Hello nice to be here first time here.

Steven st.clair

Longtime / rabid listener / first time commenter / huge fan. Random question: Does anyone know where I can stream Robbie’s short film “9mm of Love”? Thanks in advance. ❤️to all Delra Flyers.

Marisa Jenkins

Hey guys! Just here in the UK to say thanks for the merchandise! Came in the post today, very fast. Thanks!!!

Dawn Colleen Smith

Hellow Fellow Trekies! Long time listener first time subscriber! Happy to be apart of the crew finally!

Andre Perry

If people are posting mean bullying stuff, maybe give them warnings and if they continue to do it maybe block them from being able to post in the future?

Penny Liu

As Tom Paris would say referencing Workforce part 2... "This city is supposed to be safe!!"

Robert Allen Stiffler

Unfortunately, I've seen a few. Hopefully removed by now! Positive vibes only on here!

Jen V

Why would anyone be mean to you 🥲

mark rossi

I'm guessing they would have been removed before you saw them.

Irene Artho

Havent seen 1 negative comment

Mister T

I applaud all the above but sorry to see a perfectly innocent message of mine appears to have been removed. Would this be because of a comment someone else has made to it? This moderating stuff isn't easy I know. I love you all and hoping it's just a misunderstanding.

J

Exactly

Ed Chapman

Well those rules are beautifully written. Thank you.

Martin Byrne

Absolutely!

Lauren Rivers

I've been a Trek fan since childhood too! My Dad introduced it to my whole family, though I was the one who became completely enamored by it hahaha. I've been watching the DS9 podcast eps with him and my Mum, it's already become such a welcome part of our week. I've been listening to the Voyager episodes during my commute, I just finished season 3 the other day and started season 4! I'll have to go back and watch the video versions next time we want to rewatch Voyager haha! I also loved the interviews during the strike, it was so amazing hearing everyone's life stories. This whole podcast has been such a gift, and I'm also glad it's one I'm sharing with other fans like you!

Ria

I'm so glad that the Robbie & Garrett are still on air reviewing a new Star Trek show and hearing their thoughts on it. I also love Terry & Armin on the show too. Giving us extra details about their DS9. I love when Terry suggested bringing on other cast members, such as Hana Hatae. I would love to hear her memories of the show and what is she doing now. I'm really enjoying the show. Thank you all.

JoBud

Good, thank you. I was hoping there would be no need in this group. Sometimes things are said that are not intended badly but it is clearcut when folk are downright rude and over critical. No one knows everything about Trek...not even the people who think they do.

J

I joined during the strike too!! I was SO excited when it was over ... and only because it meant the DS9 re watch could start LOL. I too am watching through the Voyager podcast. I almost done with season 3. I'm glad I'm not the only one late to the party! I've been a Star Trek fan since childhood. Re watching these and listening to the podcast has been such a joy. This time of year is hard sometimes, but the Delta Flyers has been such a bright spot. It's so nice to interact with other fans too!!! (the nice ones anyway!) I'm glad you are having a similar experience.

Jennifer

Thank you so much Jennifer, that's so kind of you to say. We watched the episode this evening (it was the perfect distraction from our grief for a couple hours) and the conversation between Robbie, Garrett and Terry was so genuine and thoughtful that it made me even more disgusted by the comments (and my folks were also outraged when I told them what I had read). Like you said, it's the kind of stuff that made me leave a lot of other online spaces, even Trek focused ones. I'm genuinely so glad that (most of) the fans here are supportive, empathetic people who are so kind to each other and thrilled to be on this journey with our wonderful hosts! I'm new to the Patreon, having only joined when the SAG-AFTRA strike started (I'm not quite halfway through the Voyager episodes!), and only upgraded to the video tier recently so my parents and I could watch each week. Reading and responding to the other (kind! excited! supportive!) comments each week has made me feel part of this little community, so I'm so glad I'll be able to keep doing that with these new rules in place.

Ria

I'm so sorry to hear about your dog :( I finished the episode today too. I was just looking through the comments and found some really unkind exchanges. Exactly the type of online bickering that made me leave Facebook. It's so disheartening. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but it's sad when people use that as a free pass to insult others and pass judgement...

Jennifer

Thank you so much for doing this. I went back and read through the comments on this week's episode (we haven't watched yet, as we are grieving the sudden unexpected passing of our dog just yesterday) and was disgusted by the comments I read from a very small number of people. Hearing Robbie, Garrett, Terry and Armin's perspectives on these episodes is the entire reason we're here! So I have no idea why some people think it is appropriate to argue or attempt to invalidate their perspectives. Especially when Robbie and Garrett are coming to this show fresh! It's one thing to try to (respectfully!!) answer any questions they ask during the podcast about some minor bit of Trek lore that we fans know, but these comments are another thing entirely. It reminds me of being a teenager again, I used to read a lot of this sort of disrespectful, unkind stuff on the Trek forums back in the 2000s! Fans claiming to believe in the Trek ethos while arguing with and invalidating the perspectives of women and people of colour in particular. To see that sort of stuff being addressed to our wonderful hosts ... well, suffice to say, I am very very glad you're nipping this in the bud!!

Ria

No idea what was said but I must say I love the new format and the two new hosts :) looking forward to many episodes ahead

Andrew

Thank you so much and I'm so glad you guys are doing this. (Though, I am also sad it even HAS to be done) I've pretty much stopped looking at the comment section on Patreon for this very reason. It seems every time I read any of the comments, within the first three that I read, somebody will have almost certainly complained about Robbie's or Garrett's perspectives or harped on them for maybe missing some minor part of Trek lore during one of their analyses... As you said here - debate and differences in opinions and perspectives are fine but do so RESPECTFULLY and in a way that does not criticize, denigrate, invalidate, or belittle someone else for THEIR opinions and ideas. I mean, one of the biggest things that Star Trek tries to teach us is that not only should we all RESPECT each other's differences - we should be CELEBRATING them as well. It's our differences, working together as a team, that will take us to the stars and beyond.

Christopher Marshall

Thank you 😊 I’ve seen some comments I’ve had to fight the urge to respond to just because they come off so angry and mean and for what? 🤷🏻‍♂️ just not worth it we all love the trek

Raymond Rivera

Put it way better than I could have - massively seconding all of this. Love and thanks to all the DF team 💛

Victoria Burroughes

Totally support this, even though I'm disappointed that it's necessary. If you ever need someone extra help with moderation I'd be happy to assist :)

Jess Dale

Like others, also sorry this is necessary - it should be a given. But I support 100%. This has been and should always be a supportive place.

dave roberts

100% support from me

OMF

I'm sorry this was necessary, but I'm glad this is being implemented. That way we can keep this an enjoyable place to be! LLAP 🖖

Jen V

Yes, perfect name for our code of conduct!

Jen V

Damn. Disappointing. Shitty comments are not the Star Trek vibe!

Lauren Smithance

Very sad that these rules even need to be implemented. Do better people! Just have fun! :)

Andrew Gancsos

There are special places for trolls in hell. Like you have to watch the Cats movie on an endless loop.

jeff lang

Lots of love to all of you, y'all are doing a great job!

Sophie Menge

It's very easy for social media groups to get nasty and mean without moderators making sure everyone is being mindful of others so while I am sad to read that an incident occurred, I am happy to read that you are nipping this in the bud. Thank you so much. While I don't know the particulars of what transpired, I do hope the Delta Flyer hurt by what was said is in a better place now and feels supported and safe again. This is a lovely community and all should feel welcome and appreciated. I also do hope that the offender or offenders have learned a lesson from this and can grow to be better.

Ramon Medina

Same here

Robert Allen Stiffler

Better to steal a good line from a beloved TV personality also called Tom as opposed to make up a bad one: don't sweat petty things and don't pet sweaty things - in Robbie's case, feet I presume. It is unfortunate these rules need to be made for petty people who do not understand what you are creating here. I have been listening to your podcast weekly since early 2022 and became a Patreon subscriber last month. What started as a weekly 45 minute fun diverson in a very dark period in my life, has become so much more. I wholeheartedly thank, compliment and respect you Garrett and Robbie, now also Terry and Armin, for sharing not only your insights and memories in this format or on shuttlepodshow, but also parts of your personal and professional life, both in Trek context as in Life context. What a beautifully multi-layered gift this has been and continues to be. We all have our favourite Trek or the one that we started with and made us look into the entire franchise. I am a 37 year old Dutch male of quite mixed heritage and in my case this was Voyager. DS9 is often called the stepchild but Voyager also never got the appericiation it deserves either. I cannot emphasize enough how joyful, uplifting, funny, therapeutic and very genuine it feels to listen/sit down with you every week and what your show has meant to me in times when my life and health were hanging by a thread. The original show has always done this since 1995 but the extra dimensions you bring to it by doing this every week, by sharing your real life experiences, thoughts and feelings, your humor and your dynamic as individuals and friends. It enriches my soul, ability to reflect on and laugh at life and of course my funnybone. That this comes from two people who were huge rolemodels and childhood heroes, both as fictional spaceheroes lost trying to find (a) home as well as as actors/human beings who have an odd couple kind of friendship on- and offscreen, is an amazing unique experience I am grateful to be part of. Thank you very much, keep doing what you are doing and do not let certain comments or people get to you or the joy you are spreading. Even Turkey Platter needed a few years to become the man he eventually became, so perhaps these people as well. Yes Ma'am!

Tristan

I must have missed what happened. I’ve only seen nice comments.

Laura Robles

So sorry this has become necessary and I hope those that have received negative comments are doing ok!

Heather Irwin

when I read this post I said to my husband "oh no!!! but we are all trekkies/trekkers!!!" I'm sad this became necessary and that you all had to deal with that. :( Hopefully this nips it in the bud!!

Jennifer

love this comment so much

Jennifer

It's sad that the post has to be stated, but thank you for proactively making this a safe, inclusive space. "Be Kind" is the start of all the Trek goodness we have here! ❤️💛💙🤓🖖🏾

Dave A Gregory

Goodness. One would think these sorts of rules would be simple common sense. I'm glad the behavior was stopped. Thanks for everything you do to keep things running smoothly.

Stefen Hudson

Ugh - like everyone who has commented here I am so sorry this happened. I so hope no one was made to feel hurt or sad. :( This is an incredibly welcoming environment thanks to the hosts and these rules will help that. The only possible silver lining is this: you know that an Internet venture is popular, and a quality endeavor that helps people and spreads good cheer, when bad faith commenters appear and do their thing. Paradoxically, that good sense of community draws in those who want to tear people down. As Spock said, "It is not logical. But it is often true." Keep on keeping on, Delta Flyers.

Matt Norris

They don’t see RDM’s personal reaction although Robbie probably doesn’t care. It’s ok buddy - I like your sometimes forgetful quirk.

Julian Gore

Its sad that people do that kind of stuff. This should be a fun and kind environment. Love your show. 😀

Robert Allen Stiffler

Thank you for keeping this place safe for all. Glad I missed the drama... whatever it was.

Ann

I think they DO see the impact and that's the whole point. They wield their crushing words to feel powerful. It angers me and it's a pathetic thing to do. I'm glad they're implementing this.

Kathy Gale

I’m sad that this even needed to be said. I’ve only been a listener for a couple of weeks and I am so impressed by this entire production! Keep up the great work!

Vicky Thompson

This is really disheartening. I would hope we could all get along. After all we have one of the greatest things in common our love for Star Trek. on the lighter side, though, I feel like there was a missed opportunity here come out with a "Prime Directive" for conduct.

Richard Jones II

People are just thoughtless and don’t see the impact of their words. It’s a shame people can’t keep their opinions about people to themselves. Keep up the great work! Loving the DS9 podcasts.

Julian Gore

Sorry to hear you've had to deal with that. It's amazing how many people do not adopt these rules in everyday life. Trek promotes kindness and inclusively. ❤️ anyone here that doesn't get that should let the door hit them on the way out 👀

Stephanie Davies

This is such a great podcast and everyone involved is doing an amazing job. It’s a highlight for the week waiting to listen. 🎧

Scott Lakes

I don't normally read the comments so I don't know what was being said but what I know for sure is I don't want hateful or rude people in this community. Thank you for putting these rules in place and I'll try to check out the comments more in future!

Ian Page

I'm sorry to hear that folks making the show and/or listeners have had to deal with anyone leaving them an unkind comment. The delta flyers has been my weekly dose of serotonin since the pandemic and have been fortunate enough to see people make great friendships in the discord server and just generally live the values of Trek in the comments as well. I hope anyone that's suffered through any negativity, especially those that may be new, understand that 99.99% of the people here have nothing but love for each other and the journey we're all on with the hosts and producers. I'm sure then overwhelming majority of us support these rules and appreciate you all continuing to make your podcast, discord, and comments section as safe and inclusive as possible. I really appreciate seeing #4 as it's easy for anyone on the Internet, myself included, to not be mindful and take our own opinion on Trek as fact or be dismissive of others who share a different opinion. Especially for those of us that have been watching for decades and are maaaaaaybe a little too attached to our opinions without realizing it 😅. Again, thanks for setting up some clear rules and guidelines. As the podcast grew it was inevitable to need something like this in place, son please Delta Flyers, don't feel bad. I appreciate this post and love the way you all closed it out with #6. Live long and prosper, everyone 🖖🏼

Wrestling With Gaming

I am so sorry you had to post that. So sad. Love to all!

Sue B

I love the Delta Flyers! Rarely get to the comments, I don't have the time. Rules are sometimes needed...Be kind to each other...Love Armin & Terry. ..Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations! LLAP.

Elizabeth C Tully

These are perfectly reasonable. Also, I don't often comment, but I did earlier today and then I see an email with "Comment Rules" and my first thought was "I don't think I said anything rude." 😅 #Coincidence

Christina De Clerck-Szilagyi

Sad that it became necessary, but bravo!

peter

*air guitar noises*

XDeminox

And "Party on, dudes!"

Ryan K

I didn’t know such unkind comments had been made (Confession-I don’t read all the comments on every post), and my heart hurts that even some appeared. This is a wonderful place for a special family of people from all over the world who generally care about each other in addition to Trek and all the artists who have contributed to its success over the last almost-60 years. For ANYONE who was hurt in any way by anyone’s unkind comments, i’m sending you love and hugs. This is a very special place with very special people and I agree there is no room for either bad intentions or actions.

James Morrow

100% agreed with these rules, anyone who is rude or abusive doesn't understand nor should be a member anymore. This is terrific podcast and I've been following for months. It's helped get me through some tough times and if some people are intolerant or abusive, well yeah ill stop there so I don't get kicked out. To all our hosts(Rdunc-Garett-Terry-Armin) thank you for the countless hours of entertainment, star trek has helped me through some very difficult times in my life and thank you for this podcast. I don't know if you'll ever see this message but words can't convey the gratitude and appreciation to you all.

Martin D

I believe the ancient proverb by Bill S. Preston and Theodore "Ted" Logan "Be Excellent to Each Other" should be our guide

XDeminox

Thank you for keeping this a safe and collegial place for everyone. I appreciate all that Team Delta Flyers does!
