This episode was recorded in early July 2023, before the SAG Strike.

Born in 66, I have watched Star Trek since it went into syndication. Every summer at about 3pm Star Trek and Lost in Space came on back to back. After the news at 10:30pm on Saturdays I got The Twilight Zone, Star Trek and then Battlestar Galactica. I have bought enough Star Trek merch to choke a horse and still have an attic full of stuff I don't know what to do with. This is all fantastic information and is exactly what I was looking for in this podcast, however a lot of it should have been in the first podcast episode to set the stage for everything that followed. I can watch the episodes and review them myself with notes on the internet. What I want is what is in this podcast, the stuff you cant find on-line, the behind the scenes personal interactions etc. Please have more of this. Point of clarification: Janeway was NOT the first female Captain of starship. She was the first female Captain as the series lead. There were at least 6 female Captains of starships before Voyager came along. Rowdy Roddy Piper starred in "They Live". The best line ever: "I have come to chew bubble gum and kick ass, and I am all out of bubble gum!" Awesome. Series winners are Janeway, Seven and the Doctor because the show became all about them. Series losers are all the other characters. The big missing scene / character clarification: We are shown how Nick Locarno (Nick is his middle name and Locarno is his mother's maiden name) continued to make bad choices and ended up in prison where he changed his name to Tom Paris which is his real first name and the last name of his father in order to make a new start in life.

Kirtsen beyer did an incredible post-season 7 voyager series called full circle. Voyager leads a fleet of sheets back to the delta quadrant using sleep stream technology. Would love to see that turned into a series.

Dave Grad

Two of their favorites are Timeless and Tinker Tenor Doctor Spy.

Dee McGee

As a lifelong fan since the premiere of TNG, I started watching the podcast beginning with the Season 5 recap. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for this. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Dee McGee

I started watching TOS after school in the early ‘70’s by holding the rabbit antennas on our black and white TV in the sunroom to get the best reception from Sioux Falls (I lived 90 miles away in Sioux City). I read all the tie in novels. I have the first books, the anthologies. So ‘big Trek fan’ is an understatement. Voyager IS my favorite Trek. I honestly thought DS9 had a stronger long-term plot, but Voyager was legit Science Fiction. Big sci-fi concept episodes, with Shakespearean themes and layered characters. I had to get VHS tapes shipped to me overseas (I was on active duty and stationed in Europe during first run) and I rewatched avidly each episode. I would have to take a full point off for the episodic dictate. We should have had more continuity. Continuity would have elevated it to masterpiece. And yes, it has the flaws of the ‘90’s in terms of gratuitous shots and tone deaf treatment of some topics. But in general the characters were awesome, the stories great, the acting superb, and the VFx/SFx awesome. And it will FOREVER have the best theme music. Thank you for the podcast. It has allowed me to savor the episodes. When I think of my ‘authentic self’, it’s the little girl (inside the 61 year old grandma) who loves Voyager. My scenes/story adjustments: - ITA, open dialogue on J/C relationship - More Janeway/Paris action scenes: they were two peas in a pod to me (which is why she came down so hard on him) but it was always daring stuff. - More Chakotay with each crew member - I feel he got lost a bit and more to offer as a mentor. - Less solo Doctor and solo Seven episodes. These were GREAT characters with outstanding acting but there was some plot redundancy in their solo episodes. - I wish they had kept Kes. I’ll stop before I start whining. In short, I could have watched two hour episodes with more continuity. I’m greedy for things I love.

SnazzyO

I just became a Patreon and am going back to watch all vids! You guys rock. 🙌🏾 Also, this is random, but I love your podcast theme song. It’s perfect.

Thanks for this Robbie and Garrett. I have watched Star Trek since the 70’s Voyager was, is and probably always will be my favourite series. The chemistry between all the cast and characters was magical. Voyager really did go where no one had gone before and probably found more strange new worlds than any other series. My favourite line of all time was in Endgame when Harry asked Tom if he wanted to get home and Tom answered “I am home”. That had me in tears, because Voyager felt like my Star Trek home, the characters were like family and I didn’t want the journey to end! For me Voyager will always be my 10 out of 10 TV show.

Sharon Parsons

Thanks, Robbie and Garrett! I've watched all of the Star Trek shows, including "Prodigy" and "Strange New Worlds" and ST: Voyager is still my favourite. I just fell in love with all of the Voyager cast, there was magic dust in the air when the show was finally cast with all of you. The chemistry between you all was amazing! The highlight for me was the developing Janeway/Chakotay relationship which led me to making so many like-minded friends all over the world in the J/C community, led me to writing J/C fan-fiction and making J/C fan-art which both taught me how to speed type and master Photoshop - two things I'd never have done otherwise - and then opened up the world of work for me where I use those skills. I was a stay-at-home mum before this and with my husband at work, when all 3 of my children started full-time school, my brain needed stimulation and my writing and arts helped me so much in the quiet of a house that had been filled with kid-noises before, but where now the sound of a ticking clock was getting louder by the day. The Voyager years were magical for me and I still enjoy the J/C & Voyager community. A pairing I would have liked to see more back-story and interaction on was Chakotay and Torres. Those two had such a special friendship, I would have liked some stories on how it came to be so special. Also, similarly Janeway and Tuvok - another deep friendship where we were too often told, not shown how they came to be. Good luck with the 'Captain Proton idea! I'm stoked about that and I hope it comes to pass.

Moonglade

I think those rumors would have been all the way back when Flashback aired.

Samantha

There were rumors about George Takei Captain Sulu series, but they went with Enterprise instead. The Sulu series, IMHO, would have been a better idea.

Eric Bennett

totally agree on seven/tuvok scenes. they're so funny together.

Samantha

I always thought she had Mom energy but it doesn't surprise me to learn she has strong Auntie energy too.

Crewman Cam, ship's accent coach

Would love to hear Robbie's and Garrett's 5 favourite and least favourite episodes!

tractorboy280

Excellent show! Love Robbie’s stories about Kate Mulgrew…she’s the best. I was fortunate to meet her and speak with her twice and she has exceptional interpersonal skills. She makes you feel like you are the only person in the room. I am looking forward to next week’s show continuing live action Voyager season 8!

ChrisB

For Season 8 I'd have Voyager back in the Delta Quadrant(sorry about that) in an alternate timeline(sorry about that too) with 20+ years home. The crew has accepted their fate, settled in a peaceful groove, formed families, public spaces full of art and greenery to make it like a home, crew members have half year on duty/half year off. J/C got married. Tuvok got medication. Harry Kim is a Commander. Original cast actors come to Season 8 as they are, in their real age. The story arc is about enduring friendship and love.

Daniel Wilson

Seven/Tuvok friendship is precious. I would have absolutely wanted more of that.

Raita

I wish we had got more of Seska before she turned to the Kazon.

Christopher Collins

I think the dynamics I wish we saw more pairings of B’Elanna Torris with Neelix or Tuvock. I liked seeing the contrast of those two. I enjoyed what we did get to see of Seven of Nine and Tuvock in season 4 and 5 but I also wish we saw that dynamic more. I wish Chakotay was developed more in the show as far as his character besides family, Maquis, and religions. I felt like the little we saw of his character interests like boxing was seen so little in the series and I felt like after season 4 Chakotay sadly got underutilized besides being a first officer and providing advice and strategy.

Christopher Collins

I liked hearing about Robert Duncan McNeil’s experience at the Voyager Premiere and story with Kate Mulgrew and hearing the context of the UPN network. I thought it was interesting hearing about the insights on the numbers on Netflix. I do think Voyager has more good episodes compared to the other series as an overall series from the Rick Berman series.

Christopher Collins

The X Files came back because of Kumail Nanjiani’s podcast, maybe Voyager can too

Mike Joyce

Are you planning to have a Halloween costume contest again this year?

Cassandra Quam

"The Chakotay/Seven romance should have been allowed to grow." No, Robbie. It should have been uprooted, burned, and then sent back to the hellhole from which it came!

Mary Burch

I am so happy you rated Voyager as a hole so high as you did. You really hit me in my heart with that, and it also reflect what I've been feeling since the first time I watched Star Trek Voyager.

Trine Våbenø (Triyan)

I really enjoyed this episode. I’m looking forward to hearing about what everyone did back on earth. I wanted to see everyone hugging and stepping out into the sun. And a montage of Tom and B’Elanna raising their daughter, Harry finding love and becoming a captain and seeing his parents. Janeway and Chakotay finally together. I wanted Seven to find that Unimatrix zero guy. Tuvok reunited with his family.

Laura Robles

Can't wait til the strike is over to see what you come up with as a potential 8th season. Awesome!

shannon brown

Thanks to all those involved. I may have to do a re-watch of Voyager and listen to the podcasts again until this strike is settled.

GAY Kleven-Lundstrom

Seven and Tuvok having an argument. Huge missing scene. Lol. That would have been awesome. I have enjoyed every Monday since this started just because of the pod. Highlight of the week and cheapest entertainment value around!!!

Karen Chuplis

You guys were doing 26 a year, and these days (Trek in particular) it still take 12 months to produce 10 eps. Strange New Worlds was just getting going and now it's finished already. Picard (S3) was just getting to the interesting bit and it concluded, and fans have called for more spin-offs (such as Enterprise-G and Captain Seven) which seem likely in the long term. Funny how Seven almost because the focus of the show instead of Picard!).

Andrew Murray

"orange is the new black" - wasnt' Kate Mulgrew in that show?

Andrew Murray

Enterprise was to use U2's “Beautiful Day” as its theme song, but it was too expensive, so they rushed an alternative.

Richard Knijnenburg

I always love to hear your reflections about the show, seasoned with what time and experience have taught you since then. You two have lived/continue to live such different lives than most of us professionally that the tapestry of your lives is a joy for fans/friends to explore.

James Morrow

How refreshing for the pod to go back to the old days of BTS stories and insights rather than the more goofy, fan service stuff 👍😃

Craig Drebit

Surly the missing episode is the one where they explain how they got more photon torpedo's when they were only supposed to have 40.

bakura

Robbie & Garrett, In 2020 I began a journey writing a pilot script for a Star Trek Janeway series and I would love for both of you to read it. I'm currently finishing the final draft after rewriting a few key scenes to fix continuity after Season 3 of Picard aired. After it's finished I'd love to send the script and writer's Bible I wrote, additionally detailing the plot for the entire season. I think the story has the potential to give fans a beautiful reunion of the Voyager crew and if you'd be willing to help me pitch it, a total resurgence of Star Trek Voyager itself.

Andrew Gancsos

I was only a five dollar supporter. But I think I was there from the beginning or close to it. Thank you so much for this. I can’t wait for DS9!
