The Delta Flyers - Endgame, Part 1 725 Video

This episode was recorded in early July 2023, before the SAG Strike.

The Delta Flyers is a weekly Star Trek: Voyager rewatch & recap podcast hosted by Garrett Wang & Robert Duncan McNeill. Each week Garrett and Robert will rewatch an episode of Voyager starting at the very beginning. This week’s episode is Endgame, Part 1. Garrett and Robbie recap and discuss the episode, and share their insight as series regulars.

Endgame Part I:
In the year 2404, the Federation and the re-assembled crew of Voyager are celebrating the 10th anniversary of the ship's return to Earth, 23 years after it was stranded in the Delta Quadrant.

If the timeline was restored after Year of Hell, that mug shouldn't be there.

Dee McGee

Neither of these guys ever instinctively ducked when driving under something low? LOL I have! The scene was great as it was.

MG

I never knew there was an official breaking point for Endgame. I thought it was a long finale! **Spoliers for Part 2 endstate** - I agree the old makeup was too old. Ethics of Time Travel: Here’s my thoughts. - Normally I’d say ‘nope’. Because you change everyone else’s lives. [Avenger’s Endgame Time Heist gets a pass because they were correcting a Cosmic choice and made sure no new lives were lost] - BUT, there’s the Temporal Prime directive. And they LET HER DO IT. Which means the entire Temporal Prime directive and associated enforces may have DEPENDED on Admiral Janeway’s misbehavior. - Add onto that the massive destruction of the Borg. Billions, not just Millions, of lives possibly saved from assimilation because she took out the Queen. (Part 2) Now, it wasn’t quite genocide as she brought chaos to order, she didn’t physically kill everyone. But that is a monster shift in reality. So, for the Admiral’s original intent - kinda ‘nope’ on the ethics scale. For the long term benefit to the entire galaxy - it seems ‘greater good’ may apply. On Chakotay/Seven, if done with more buildup I could have lived with it. The Captain made her choice. Reinforced with Jaylen in Workforce. Chakotay didn’t have to choose to be celibate. He choose to pursue (or accept) the advances of a civilian. It’s dicey, but they could always change who reports to whom on this. But I think the Admiral’s priorities were: A) Seven (who was like a daughter to her IMO) B) Mental health of Tuvok C) Mental health of Chakotay D) 22 unnamed dead crew So, I think she may or may not have been in pain over their relationship, but she lived both to want them back under any circumstance. I loved future Harry and Janeway conversation.

SnazzyO

I cracked up that both Robbie and Garrett pointed out how silly it was that Janeway and Paris ducked when they flew under the cube. I thought the same thing! Also, they totally did older Tom like Biff Tannen!

Maria Brown

I think the writers should not have listened to Kate Mulgrew and let Chakotay and Janeway have a relationship especially knowing in Pickard how Seven became

Rachelle H

I have no idea what I think of Chakotay/Seven because I never saw it. Would I have liked them as a couple if I saw them develop a relationship? Maybe. Dunno. Didn't see it.

Samantha

Amen! Lol 😅

Marian Bieniek

"I feel like we're missing a whole season of Seven and Chakotay's relationship." I don't think anybody *missed* that, Robbie...

Mary Burch

Robbie and Garrett’s perspective is amazing because unlike some of us we’ve watched it many times over. For me it’s like I watch it for the first time every time and that goes for any Star Trek show. Star Trek just does it for me🥰

ChrisB

That was the most hilarious, adorable "What we remember." For those of us who have watched Endgame numerous times, we can't imagine the stars being uncertain of the plot, lol! It's one of the best episodes and captures so much critical Voyager lore. Thank you for reigniting The Voyager for us! That was a really fun ride!

Michael Robbins

I played OG Doom back in the day when it was the first 3D-ish FPS and when super-pixelated fireballs were growing on my screen as if they were gonna burn my face off, I dodged as I tried to get my character out of the way. I see no reason to think that particular reflex should be able to evolve out of our species in the ten to twenty generations between college me and Delta Quadrant Paris/Janeway.

Dave Smith Geo

Agree about Janeway. One of the reasons I hate the time travel story is that it makes Janeway incredibly selfish. She erased an entire timeline for her own ends! And she supposedly did it to save the lives of her crew, but she could’ve come back a month earlier and saved Joe Carey!

Mary Burch

I concur. Voyager-era Seven with anybody is just gross.

Mary Burch

I heard that Braga challenge comment too, and it’s a dumb reason to have that story appear…total mistake.

ChrisB

Lisa, you are in for a treat! I have been a fan of DS9 since the beginning…it is an amazing show!

ChrisB

I am also very happy that you guys are continuing with DS9 with Armin Shimmerman and Terry Farrell. How amazing!!!

ChrisB

Never was a fan of Chakotay/Seven romance never will be a fan of Chakotay/Seven romance, no matter how it’s spun. Seven did pretty well for herself, and Chakotay is lost in the Delta quadrant again… I hope we get to see Admiral Janeway save him with First Officer Captain Kim by her side and Captain Paris navigating the Voyager-A! One can dream.

ChrisB

Tom & Janeway ducked because it's instinctual. Something's coming right at you, you move. It would have been "off" if they'd just sat there stoically, knowing it couldn't make a difference. And it made them more human. It was GREAT.

Tara

Harry becoming a Captain?!? Now you're just talking crazy-talk, Robbie. SMH LOL

Christopher Marshall

The 7 and Chakotay romance could be a great idea?!?!? THAT IS SACRALIGE, MR. McDUNK! LOL :-P

Christopher Marshall

Not sure either.. maybe they have a special thing planned for the questions..

Daniel de Rooy

The Chakotay/Seven relationship was way out of bounds. The character may have an adult body but her emotional maturity is still that of a child. There's a reason her closest relationships were with Naomi (a child) and the Doctor (another being with little emotional maturity). I found the pairing of Chakotay and Seven really pretty icky.

AM Marquez

I'm so happy to hear the podcast will continue and with DS9. Also having heard Michelle Herd speak about why everyone is striking is such a shocker - we viewers had no idea. Totally behind you all. Just a quick point Robbie (albeit minor). You said that Janeway wasn't hurting anyone except herself by doing what she's doing... she is however effectively erasing that timeline so that Harry, that Miral and all those people will disappear and reappear in a new timeline. Whilst it suits this story it means many others may never appear etc. Of course I think many agree that the Chakotay/7 storyline was ridiculous (but I believe it happened as Beltran made a bet or challenged Braga (who was dating Jeri Ryan at the time) that he'd never let him kiss his girlfriend on screen!

Humaira

I love that Tom and the captain duck. It’s just so instinctual.

Karen Chuplis

Janeway CAN NOT have a damaged coffee cup from the Year Of Hell, because that timeline was erased at the end of the 2 part episode and never happened. Therefore the damage from something else that happened to them prior to Voyager returning home. RDM is wrong. The Seven and Chakotay romance WAS set up in TWO different episodes: Human Error and Natural Law. Human Error where Seven explores her sexuality with holoChakotay and Natural Law where they bonded on the away mission on the planet. RDM was full of comments about how they were very flirty to each other in Natural Law but now says nothing was set up. SMH. RDM is also wrong about Janeway's actions only affecting her. How does changing the entire timeline for everybody in the universe only affect her? What in the sam hill are you talking about dude? This action affects everyone!

ST Fan CB

Was hoping for the Flyer to get into DS9 and other territories, best news of the day.

Richard Knijnenburg

Oh, you make me so HAPPY!!!! Love DS9. Looking forward to what's coming.

Ann Weber

I'm so excited for the "continuing mission" !!

Kathleen Scherrman

I'M SO SO SO GLAD YOU GUYS ARE CONTINUING THE PODCAST :) :) :) And I'm glad you guys chose DS9 because I haven't seen that show yet. I hope it doesn't get too crowded with now FOUR people chatting each week, but I understand why they are joining :)

Lisa Minnesma

Fantastic news about doing DS9 next, and with Quark and Jadzia. Looking forward to it!

Sarah Ettritch

Amazing news! I was hoping DS9 was the next show you'd explore. Great job all!

Jonathan Brooks

I’m so excited they are doing DS9! That is my second favorite Star Trek show!!

Scarlett Henry

Evasive Manoeuvres: pattern duck! Janeway and Paris, they were not struck Long before the Avengers came Voyager has their Endgame With time travel run amok With time travel run amok With time travel run amok With time travel run amok With time travel run amok With time travel run amok With time travel run amok

Mark Lacey

I am going to look forward to the potpourri delta flyers episodes as if it can be anything it maybe fascinating or at least a lot of fun or serious and we won’t know until they are released, glad for the quick part upfront with the guys though hope the rest of us who aren’t admirals can see some photos of the fun. More on the rest of the episode later…

Estelle Keller

No Admirals questions this time or are they being saved up for Part 2?

Andrew Murray

9.5 "that's heavy!" (as Marty would say).

Andrew Murray

Harry seems to have forgotten that a certain Ensign Kim did the same thing in "Timeless" and he has a message "From Harry Kim....to Harry Kim" to prove it.

Andrew Murray

Voyager's view screen is hardly an iMax or 3D protection screen! ha ha.

Andrew Murray

Interesting about Seven and Chaktoay, three seasons ago he was ready to blow her out the airlock.....

Andrew Murray

Chakotay died at 63....but Robert Beltran as at 2001 (Voyager season 7 year) was 48....

Andrew Murray

You two continuing the podcast with DS9 featuring Jadzia and Quark is absolutely perfect! I can't imagine a better way to go on. Looking forward to it!

Daniel Wilson

that photo should ahve been autographed "Kate Mulgrew" - just for fun.

Andrew Murray

speaking of BTTF I think they actually overdid Marty and Lorraine (BTTF 2 in 2015) ageing makeup as well because they appeared much older than they should have been for the age they were portraying.

Andrew Murray

Why do they duck - isn't the view screen just a giant computer screen and the sensors project the image on it, it's not a literal windscreen with the actual view outside the ship.

Andrew Murray

does one season of Trek (any trek) represent a literal 12 month period? It would seem not. "The year of Hell" was 2-parter (where I believe it was originally envisaged to be a full season story-arc) so 2 eps represented one-year until the clock was turned back....

Andrew Murray

cool quark and dax - what legends.

Andrew Murray

Good episode. I have no trouble with ducking at the sight of the ship coming by, it is a natural reflex and would have required thought to over ride that impulse. Try it. lol

Mr Paris

now watching the podcast, yeah old makeup always gives me a kick to see how close the make-up artists get to how the person actually ages. but they def did Tom bad, i think it was a quick bit to the "he's the playboy dude, haha, he's old now". tom was a favorite when i was a teenage girl watching the show and when i came back to voy as an adult, then googling how careers developed after, i was a little shocked by the adult transition of Robbie, but you still look 100 percent better than future holono-novelist tom

Kathrine Rieger

the only good thing about the strike is that it might delay the flyers season 2 debut enough so as I binge through the entire universe in order which i decided this weekend is my new thing, we might all line up. love you guys and love the behind the scenes support, so happy this podcast exists.

Kathrine Rieger

Amazing News! I had planned to continue with my DS9 rewatch I had put on hold when Delta Flyers started anyway. So I will just start from the beginning with you guys :)

Christian Könemann

Ducking makes sense to me, the Bridge is the top of the ship so if they don't maneuver enough it is what's going to be scraping the bottom of the cube.

Brandon Kolk

Janeway and Tom aren't 'ducking', they're thrown forward by whatever maneuver Tom makes to veer out of the way of the Borg cube.

Emmett Macfarlane

Amazing news about continuing with DSN!!!! So happy

Nicholas Daniels

Thank you so much for doing this and continuing to enrich my favorite Star Trek show. I can't believe we are almost at the end.

Andrew Gancsos

So glad to hear there's more to come! Can't wait to see all the fun non-trek too.

Sam

Ooh! Looking forward to a S*:**9 rewatch with Terry and Armin! They're both such incredible actors and their D** characters were terrific!

Don Eitner

Late night podcast let’s gooo
