Hey ya’ll! So after Chunk 1 and Chunk 2 last October, we started brainstorming other fun things to try preserving in resin (although admittedly, we wanted a break from pumpkins specifically after that haha!) And an idea we thought of was recreating the Beauty and the Beast rose, but instead of preserving it with magic we preserve it with resin instead! We actually started by buying an officially licensed Beauty and the Beast rose to use as a jumping off point…

Of course, the store bought one is a fake rose… they even forgot to use the right colored plastic on the injection molding of the leaf stems (they’re white/clear instead of green) but it still gave us a good reference point.
So we bought our own glass dome and Evan came up with a 3D printed stand to hold it upside down, because we wanted to lower the rose into it and pour the resin directly into the glass. He also 3D printed a stem centering/holding device that rests on top.

One thing we’re doing differently than the pumpkins is we are gonna cure it in the pressure pot. This is because there are sooooo many little folds and crevices on a rose that air bubbles could get stuck on. The downside of that is we have no clue how long it’ll take to cure (we did it in an ice bath) and we can’t check on it preemptively because if it’s not cured, the bubbles will expand. So I guess we’ll just wait and see! -Katelyn
