We’re making a weird laptop…

We’re making a laptop… out of cardboard! I’ll give some backstory on how we came up with this idea. A while ago, Evan learned about the Framework laptop which is a laptop assembled of various interchangeable pieces, with the benefit of being able to easily upgrade individual parts (it’s all modular). Since it’s all these modular pieces, we’ve been brainstorming weird laptop “casings” we could build, and cardboard struck our minds.

We Got Scammed (Tungsten Dice Aftershow)

In this Aftershow we cover:

  • All the testing that didn’t make it (brass and tungsten and particle size)

  • The crazy accident Evan found on a tungsten powder listing

  • How Evan got scammed with a store bought dice

  • What we SHOULD have done with the bubbly 1 face on the final dice

  • The experience of shooting the slow mo scenes

    • How we were so nervous about destroying the dice and/or our floor

Water damage update: mold and bulging drywall (Mini Vlog 76)

It’s done and it’s HEAVY

Y’all we finished the tungsten dice and it’s so insanely heavy! And it looks so cool!! You can see just how heavy it is by this picture we took when trying to figure out what to do for the thumbnail.

We set up a bunch of “destruction tests” with our slow mo camera and it was really fun destroying stuff with the dice, although also painful because the dice itself got pretty beat up (eve...

The big molds arrived…

The big molds arrived for our giant tungsten dice (wooo!) But before going straight to the final tungsten dice, we wanted to make a test one with a cheaper tungsten analog… brass powder. The reason we wanted to test making a full size dice was because we didn’t know how this new resin would cure being poured in large amounts with metal powder in it. It’s super fast cure… so would it have thermal runaway? Would the large amount of metal act as a heat sink? If we poured it in layers rat...

Was this whole thing a mistake? (Fixing Chunk 2 Aftershow)

Wooo! In this aftershow we cover:

  • How we filmed this to be a second channel video

  • How we thought we were at the end of the video twice

  • The tons of footage we filmed at various check in points over the two weeks he was hooked up to the pumps, and how 90% was cut

  • Evan being happy he justified his pump purchase (how the pump redeemed itself after it failed to pump resin)

  • Anything we'd do differently? (Huge mistakes w...

Small scale tests with destructive results

Hey y'all! So we did a bunch of small scale tests with the tungsten in, ironically, jumbo D20 molds (they're bigger than normal D20s but not as crazy big as we want to go!). Not every test will make it into the video  because we worried it’d start getting really repetitive though.

The most important tests (the ones that we know will for sure make it into the video) were to figure out...

Our new project is really WEIGHING on us…

Hey guys! Excited to let y’all know we’re working on a new project… we’re gonna be making SUPER heavy tungsten dice! It’s an idea Evan’s had beebopping around in his brain for a while now, but there were several issues holding us back from starting it. Mainly, we wanted to use tungsten to add weight to the dice (it’s one of the densest/heaviest metals we can get our hands on) but it’s SUPER expensive and really hard to machine, so cutting it into a shape that fit efficiently i...

We’ve been working on a project update in the background…

Hey guys! So, we’ve been working on a project update in the background that I was really nervous about: attempting to fix Chunk 2.

What do I mean by “fix”? Well if you saw the Aftershow for that video, you may remember that our resin cube pumpkin, Chunk 2, started bulging a few days after we demolded him. Shortly after that, we also saw that he was “sweating” and a bunch of liquid was collecting around him. Which made us conclude that there were biological processes happening ...

What’s worth keeping?! (Instagram Ads Aftershow)

In this Aftershow we cover:

  • Katelyn’s Expectation vs Reality about the types of products Evan would pick

  • Evan’s Expectation vs Reality about the ad vs reality

  • What we’ll actually keep

  • What we won’t use

  • What ads we each get shown the most

  • Our thoughts on product review videos

We're doing a resin stream and it's gonna be tasty

We're planning a stream soon where we're gonna make resin jewelry out of food! It was inspired by the Pringles earrings we made during a “testing resin hacks” video, which have held up really well, and we have some other ideas we want to try turning into jewelry!

For example, hot Cheetos earrings, lucky charms necklace, Skittles beads, a ring pop ring, etc. We are still compiling ideas but if you have any requests let us know! Just no chicken nuggets again… -Katelyn

It’s gonna be a busy month!

Hey y’all! June is gonna be a verrrrrry busy month for us - we have a family reunion trip, Open Sauce, and Vidcon! On one hand it’s really exciting because reunions and events are really fun things we like to do, but on the other hand it’s a little stressful because it’s the most time we’ve been gone in one month since we started the channel. On top of that, we had an AC leak that we’ve been dealing with the past few days so that’s been a bit stressful. The silver lining is we f...

It was worse (and better) than I thought

We finished testing all the Instagram ad products Evan bought and I had forgotten just how unnecessary some of these items were (and how expensive!) but if I'm being honest… a few were actually kinda awesome despite that (which I admitted to Evan's immense joy haha).

Though some were such awful fails too haha. And one was REALLY awkward to demonstrate (you're really gonna question if w...

We're planning a really COOL stream

Hey guys! So we’re planning to do another liquid nitrogen stream, but instead of Dippin Dots, we’re gonna try making instant ice cream! By pouring liquid nitrogen straight into ice cream ingredients and constantly stirring, you can actually turn those ingredients into ice cream pretty much immediately, and it’s supposed to actually be creamier than normal ice cream because the ice crystals for instantly, making them smaller.

We actually made the drive to one of the f...

Evan breaks the keyboard AGAIN (Concrete Keyboard Aftershow)

Checkout today's aftershow for:

  • One secret that Evan’s been keeping from Katelyn

  • One big thing Evan would have changed about the 3D printed stems (specifically for the multi stem key caps)

  • How this keyboard compares to our other weird ones

  • Thoughts on one piece keycap molds vs two piece keycap molds

  • Why we didn't use clear silicone

  • Our poor backs…

  • The sticking pieces

Evan just spent a bunch of money…

First off, thanks everyone for the input on our upcoming tie dye merch! We got a lot of great insight from y’all. Now, onto today’s post: oh boy guys. Brace yourselves. Evan told me he's been saving a lot of ideas for a video on Instagram, and here I am thinking it's some more viral crafts to try. No… turns out it's Instagram ads and he bought a BUNCH of DIY/cat/workshop related products to test. And after weeks of waiting, everything finally arrived…

We want your thoughts on our new tie dye merch samples!

Hey guys! We are super excited to launch some new tie dye merch with our new design - a little Floodle cloud with the words “it'll be fine,” a saying we use a lot when projects aren't going as planned, I think we specifically said it a bunch in our resin computer video and we had some comments wanting it on merch. We came up with a bunch of variations but can’t sell all of them so we need your help narrowing down the options to your favorites.

We’d love to get your input in the ...

We almost failed at the VERY end

We poured and demolded and sanded and finished concrete for days and days, then it was finally time to do the final assembly of the keyboard.

We were 90% done assembling it, starting with the smaller keys, but then the spacebar wouldn’t attach. It was like the stems weren’t quite lining up or something. We got a bit more vigorous and… it broke :’( Luckily we had another spacebar (wh...

We’re using toilet cleaner in our next stream

Hey guys! Been planning a stream for a while where we use toilet cleaner as our primary ingredient - it’s another bleach dying stream! It’s so cool, Evan found some techniques where you use the thicker bleach “gel” (like toilet cleaner) and you can actually draw pretty detailed art with it.

So I sketched a bunch of designs we could try on various t-shirts (and yes I remembered to ...

Giving Joob a Break (Cat Hacks Aftershow)

Wooo! In this Aftershow we cover:

  • Which hack was the most surprising for each of us?

  • Why we always have so much fun with these types of videos (make fun of the craft/hack, get to laugh at each other since they so rarely work, and less pressure on outcome)

  • Katelyn’s worry that none of the hacks would be DIY heavy enough

  • Katelyn’s complaint about SO many hacks being just store bought products and not actually DIY

  • How ...

We’re up to our elbows in concrete

Hey guys! There’s a lot more to update you on in terms of the concrete keyboard. This has been quite a laborious project, pray for our backs. First off, as you can see in the first image, we’ve cast a bunch more keys! And every batch requires a whole lotta sanding and a whole lotta mold-washing.

One of the biggest wins was getting a successful spacebar, which we were pretty worried about! W...

How our strength tests turned out

We demolded our concrete keycap tests (you know, where we mixed in PVA glue, fiberglass, and sand to see how each strengthened concrete, as well as testing what happens to concrete in a pressure chamber). I’ll give you the quick version: fiberglass was AWFUL and had little strings poking out, sand was ok but didn’t seem to make it stronger, PVA glue made it stronger but it was REALLY hard to sand, and overall the pressure chamber made a BIG difference.

We're making another weird keyboard

Hey y'all! So we've started another keyboard project using another unconventional material… concrete!
This project has been on our list for a couple years but we kept putting it off because we just didn't think concrete would be strong enough for something involving such thin walls. Key caps have a lot of thin plastic parts, and there's force needed to attach the keys to the keyboard. So we worr...

A new video for Joob!

Hey guys! So I’ve been planning a video that involves the star of the show, our beloved Supurrvisor, Joobie! The video is testing DIY cat hacks from 5 minute crafts where we make projects for Joobie, then see if she actually likes them or not. I surprised Evan with the hacks and it was fun picking things I thought he (and Joob) would have fun with.

The first hack involves gloves and hot glue, and the second involves wire hangers and a t-shirt. One was a failure and one was a succe...

The robot is complete!

The Furby Robot (aka Furbot aka Coco... a name it gave itself) is complete!! And he’s sooooo cute and cursed at the same time hahaha.

We even took him to the park for a walk! The photos really don’t do him justice, he’s soooooo creepy when he moves haha. Austin even made a “cursed mode” that gives him red eyes and makes him say some truly terrifying things…
