Evan found a “microwave kiln” that lets you MELT GLASS in your microwave. What?!? YES this is a thing. And it can melt glass to 1600 degrees F!
And yes, we tried it and it works!

Basically, you start with a base piece of glass, you put other pieces of glass on top of it, you pop ‘em in the kiln, and you microwave it for 6-8 (or more) minutes til it’s melted together as one. So for our first test, we thought we’d try a bunch of our materials - dichroic glass, rods of glass, a big swirl piece, glass “confetti,” glass frit (like tiny chunks), etc just to see what each would do. You can see how it looked before we melted it vs after.

It’s pretty dang cool! Now that we know how each kinda works, we’ll try doing some designs 🙂 -Katelyn
