How projects spiral out of control (scope creep)

We were sooooo confident about how quickly we were moving through this project. Last time we checked in with y’all, we had completed all the keys except the white letter keys, meaning we were almost done. Then we thought maybe we’ll just *test* carve a few on the CNC and see how they look with letters and numbers engraved (something we weren’t going to do initially because it would take so long). So Evan put together this little jig to register the height of each individual key for the CNC (since they’re resin, the height varies slightly per key)

And he got to carving! And after a few test runs, of course they looked freaking great.

So we had to keep going with just the letter and number keys (since those are the most important to see visually)

And they looked awesome too! So then we were like, how cool would it be to make some custom designs for the “special” keys, what if we carve just one to see how it looks? I know you can see where this is going…

We decided to carve ALL the keys, complete with custom designs for the “special” ones like the escape key skull above. Not only that, we had to remake all the purple keys (about 1/3 of the keyboard) because the black paint wouldn’t show up well against them, so we opted to yellow replacements. It’s a blessing in disguise because I actually like the yellow more than the purple.
