Behind the Scenes of YouTube Rewind: Artist Edition!

Woooo the Artist Edition of YouTube Rewind is live! This was SO fun to be a part of. Jackie (NerdECrafter) was the master coordinator and editor of the whole thing and deserves huge props for all the time and effort that went into this.  So a little background, y'all are probably familiar with YouTube Rewind (a year-end video YouTube did every year to commemorate creators, trends/events of the year, etc). The past 2 did not get the best reception, and YouTube said they're not going to do one this year because it didn't feel right to celebrate 2020 considering all that has happened. But this made a lot of people sad, so creators have taken it into their own hands. 

Jackie emailed us and sooooo many other awesome creators to make one for the art/crafting community. For some scenes she had specific stuff in mind (like doing a tiktok time warp filter, dancing, etc) and some scenes we brainstormed together to fit into the overall story with everyone else's clips (like finding the Rewind button in Joob's bed). I can only imagine how much coordinating effort all this took working with SO many creators!

It was fun that we actually got to make a new thing for the purpose of this video - Rewind buttons! We CNC'd a big Rewind button (for the resin pour scene) and a small one (that fit into Joob's bed), then painted and clear coated them. Pouring resin on the big one was definitely the shot that took the most set up because we had to do it outside to get a slowmo shot (the lights inside got flickery during slowmo) and because if we messed up the shot or the button itself, we didn't have time to make another. We shared a short video of the set up here already, but we had 3 cameras and did a resin test pour on some scrap wood to make sure it looked ok! 

We did a few rounds of testing to adjust the angle, focus, glitter level in the resin, etc, and since it was outside we kept having to adjust for different brightnesses as it got later and later in the day. SO glad we did the tests though since we're really pleased with the beauty shots that made it into the final video. 

One scene we filmed as a bonus that didn't make it into the final was our part of the "pass the brush challenge so we thought it'd be fun to share it here. Evan actually has the UV resin bottle in his hand from the beginning but throws it to himself in a way that looks like it comes from the right off screen.
