A few behind-the-scenes updates

Hey y'all! We've been in behind-the-scenes mode the past few days getting a lot of back end stuff in order and it feels like we haven't filmed anything in forever (three days = forever). So I thought I'd tell you guys about some of the stuff going on (I guess it's also kind of day-in-the-life if you're curious about some of the stuff that goes into making stuff on YouTube full time that you don't see in the videos).

So we learned that reaching out to companies in December to set up anything that month or in January is a bad idea because budgets are running out and everyone is scrambling trying to wrap up for the holidays. Of course, in the moment we were getting sorta worried because we just weren't hearing back from companies we'd worked with in the past which makes our brains be like "well it was a good run gang, but no one wants to work with you now!"

So we did a handful of non-sponsored videos (which we can afford to do sometimes because we have support from you guys!), and in mid-January we reached out to a bunch of sponsors and it seems like everyone is replying ALL AT ONCE. So we're scrambling over here trying to fit everyone in, and we're basically booked up through May with sponsors now which is really exciting! Take that self-doubting brains! Ok maybe it was just my brain, Evan seemed pretty calm/confident during the whole thing.

We're also trying to plan a vacation because we used to go on a big 2-week trip every year, and we've skipped the past 2 because we were working on the channel. But we keep putting sponsor commitments where we tentatively plan vacation days so... we'll see if we can make that happen.

We're also trying to figure out what's going on with Evan's health (some doctors said it was a hernia, some said it wasn't, we're basically getting a CT scan so we can hopefully find out for sure). No real updates there, just trying to schedule projects that don't require crazy heavy lifting, but we do in general have a really hard time letting ourselves take a break (even during our imaginary 2 week vacation, we'd still be posting one video while we're away). But I think the inability to take a break is a pretty common "struggle" for anyone doing their own business (I put struggle in quotation marks because we're actually really super lucky to be doing this and have the opportunity to struggle with things like this).

Anyways, just wanted to fill y'all in on some of the stuff going on. Oh! This Friday we're finally launching our podcast setup video which is when we're also announcing it on YouTube (we've only announced it here and on social media, so that should be exciting!)

Ok signing off for now,

Katelyn

We used to save up all our vacation days for one really big trip each year! Our faves were Thailand and New Zealand and we're tempted to go back to Thailand since it's been 5 years. Would be super cool to make partner on Twitch! We started streaming kinda just for fun but now making partner doesn't seem that impractical... Thank you!! And I'll pass along the good thoughts to Evan. -K

It's definitely a mix of "whew we don't have to worry about bills for a while!" and "omg we have so many commitments what if we can't finish them all." Thank you! A break does sound really really nice, although sometimes pre-break and post-break is extra stressful. -K

I agree with the rest of my fellow patrons that you guys have earned a vacation. What kind of vacations have you taken in he past? Maybe instead of patreon funds we can donate airline miles or something to reduce the cost of taking a trip. Keep up the strong work on twitch too. Soon you will make partner and get to receive funds from the adds and they will post you on front page which will drive more traffic to all your channels. Keeping you in our thoughts Evan. Hope the CT scan gives you some answers.

Glad you guys are booked on sponsors so far ahead! Although it may be overwhelming, that must feel really awesome! You guys totally deserve a break, these past couple of years you guys have put in a ton of work and you deserve to take some chill time!
