Hi Y'all! Just wanted to give you a behind the scenes look at our current podcast/streaming setup and our thoughts on the process so far.
Much of what we've learned with our YouTube videos has transferred over but it still feels like we are learning from the ground up again and it's been quite a journey.
We started working on all this in December, researching and purchasing the equipment needed. Getting everything setup for the podcast was a bit of a challenge but not too bad. Mainly it was: get audio recorded and synced with green screen video. The biggest challenge was getting the green screen to work properly which basically came down to lots of lighting and moving farther away from the green screen (to prevent the green from reflecting onto us).
Layering live streaming on top has probably been the biggest challenge. Lots of learning around video, audio, hardware, and software. It's been over a month now but I think we're finally turning the corner with this whole thing. Capturing two video sources, all the right audio, recording locally, and streaming to the internet has basically been figured out through trial and error. Figuring out how much our computer can handle, how audio degrades when it has passed through too many devices, and even how to fit everything onto this too small desk have just been some of the challenges.
We've filmed most of a video about the podcast setup and think it's pretty good (runs about 8-9 minutes). We definitely plan to film a little more with some of the lessons we've learned but are going back and forth on if we should include what we've learned about streaming too. It might be stretching the scope some but if we don't add it to this video I'm not sure if we'll make a separate one. Curious to get your thoughts!
