Hey Jon! It is super interesting to hear your thoughts on the balance of shout outs for sponsors vs shout outs for Patrons. We're still pretty new to getting videos sponsored (this was our 4th so far) and trying to figure out ways to incorporate them naturally w/out disrupting the flow too much, but you're right trying to balance the sponsor shout out with the Patreon shout out is definitely something to keep in mind. I think it might also depend on what the content creator has promised to each party - for example, we have a spot for $5+ patron names to be written in the video and description, and every now and then we'll add in a verbal shout out when it doesn't interrupt the flow too much, but I know some folks have more dedicated sections of their videos to verbally giving new patrons shout outs, top patrons shout outs, etc. Do you think the Patreon rewards promised by the creator has an effect on your view of how they're balancing sponsor/patron appreciation? Or is it more of a bigger picture thing - like not just the shout out, but how the content creator overall is giving back to his/her patrons? Thanks!

Oh man, Katelyn, you sound like you're about to fall down as this vid goes on and on. Glad to hear you're on the mend. I liked the tiered skill level vid. If my family wasn't Jewish, the Xs ornament would be a great project for my 4 year old. It might also be great for people who have 0 tools and just like watching maker vids (that was me back in the day). I think, in your longer form builds, it's nice to see your failures or missteps. It helps me to think about how you guys go about designing / building things which is one of the things I find most interesting about your channel. In these shorter builds, it's good to just figure it out offline and then show us what to do. On another topic, and let me preface this by saying you are nowhere near guilty of this, some other channels who do sponsored ads seem to give a ton more shout outs and thank yous to the sponsors than the patrons. I know they probably give more money or resources than the patrons, but I can tell you, I stopped being a patron of another channel that I won't name publicly just because the creator spent about 30-40 seconds of 2 of their latest ~5 min videos talking about their sponsors and casually tacked on a thanks to patrons for 2-3 seconds at the end of the video. I realize that sometimes sponsorship comes with constraints and at the end of they day, they're paying for your influence and want you talking about them, but it really rubbed me the wrong way that this other channel seemed to think about the patrons as an after thought almost. You guys are not anywhere near that. You're 2 of the most hard working youtubers I follow and you're so responsive and so grateful (at least in my case more than I think I deserve for what I contribute). So, you're doing it right, but I wanted to put that out there.
