Interesting on the Roberta Sparrow book stuff! I think I felt like she was barely mentioned only hinted at but in the end it allowed for a more focused story on Donnie. I LOVE movies like this, with alt realities/timelines even if it's kinda confusing haha

I think the performances in this are exceptional and I had forgotten about the title track Mad World at the end of the film (I shouldn't have forgotten is was No1 in the UK that Christmas which was weird).
I think it's very stylized and that covers for the disjointed and difficult ways of telling a time travel story.
If I'm honest I prefer The Butterfly Effect when it comes to weird time travel (to differentiate it from Sci Fi time travel) and The Craft when it comes to teenage angst and supernatural phenomenon.
I'm still glad to have revisited this and it's oddly made me want to watch Whip-It for the Drew Barrymore connection.
Night Y'all.

the one thing i remember from the director's cut was it displayed excerpts from Roberta Sparrow's book to explain what was going on in the movie. it's purpose was to explain things better assuming the audience was stupid. it was a mistake imo, it should have never existed.
i remember this being in theatres because, i was working at a movie theatre at the time. didn't know anything about this movie because there were no trailers or ads of any kind for it. i didn't watch it until a few years later. i remember it being shown at my theatre and decided to pick it (the director's cut) to see what it was about. needless to say, i was obsessed with it for some time.
there was a youtube video i found once that broke down higher dimensions that i will share on discord that, if i can find it that is, that i feel might put non linear time and alternate realities in perspective. the writer really did their homework about time travel and wormholes for this movie!!!
so much fun!!! can't wait for more Jake Gyllenhaal on the channel. see ya then
