Iconic Toe Riffs (Transcriptions)

Hey everyone, just wanted to share some transcriptions that I've been working on for the band Toe. I've chosen riffs from some of my favourite and some of their most popular songs. I used this as a little ear training workout and as an opportunity to try and analyze their music in a more significant way for myself. I'm sure that their arrangements of these ideas are different, but my goal was to aim to get the pitches right. That's one of the cool things about guitar - you can play the same stuff in a lot of different ways. Also, something I aimed to do was transcribe as much as possible for standard tuning! Pretty nice from a pick up and play perspective.

Thanks Trevor, I appreciate your insight :)

Also, lots of staccato playing and percussive accentuation

Awesome! Yeah definitely have noticed some things. Quick notes... 1) The riffs mostly focus on a singular chord sound and don't have a whole tonne of changing bass notes. For example, Kodoku No Hatsuemi is basically just an arpeggiated Bbmaj7/D chord. Also Goodbye is really centred around an E6/9 chord. 2) The riffs are very short, usually one bar long with a variation in a 2nd measure. Riffs focus on these little syncopated grooves. 3) lots of palm muting 4) They love to 'ping pong' between a bass note and an upper string note in order to create a little "beat" (I guess beat is another way that you could think about these lines. Kodoku kinda sounds like it could be part of a trap beat on its own haha...). Overall summary is keep it short but sweet, make it groovy, don't change the bass pitch too much

One of my all time favourites for sure too, I'll probably keep adding more transcriptions to this thread. Now that I've started with some of their riffs I kinda wanna keep doing more of them

I have been wanting to do a similar thing myself! Amazing!! Do you have any thoughts or discoveries you made about their music while going through that process?
