'Scubadiving', A Piece With 11 Compositional Techniques
Added 2020-12-17 19:54:14 +0000 UTC1) + 2) The piece begins with the first guitar playing a riff, that riff is repeated by the 2nd gear but rhythmically displaced to create a canon effect.
3) The harmonies in the canon are layered so that the tones support a single chord structure
4) At the end of measure 5, a chord shot idea occurs. That chord shot idea turns into the beginning of a new phrase. This is one of my favourite tricks; take the end of a phrase and use that to start a new idea
5) The staggered guitar chords in guitar 1's part are partly played in guitar 2's part. However, the beginning 2 beats in guitar 1's part are superimposed at the LAST two beats of guitar 2's part. This creates a tripppy effect
6) Guitar 2 is the reverse of guitar 1
7) The small licks at measure's 7 + 9 are layered together to create a homophonic counterpoint. Also, there's nice contrary motion here
8) A deliberate change in texture. Instead of homophony, the parts are now displaying individual identity
9) Inverted counterpoint: The top line is taken and inverted by the 2nd guitar
10) This part is a crab canon. There's one idea here but we are hearing it in forward + reverse at the same time.
11) Same idea as (10), but just slowed down
