Abstract
This paper presents a harmonic analysis of Steve Reich’s 1979 composition, Octet. The goal of the analysis was to test my abilities at score interpretation and gain insight into how Reich approaches harmony in a large ensemble. This paper also provides a brief introduction to the history of the composition, and a discussion on the conclusions of my analysis.
