GAM Bonus 082: Batman Forever

This month, our secular bonus episodes circle back to where they all began: Batman movies. Specifically, Val Kilmer's "Batman on sedatives" performance of 1995.

Comments

man, cant belive this is a year old, feels like it was uploaded last month.

Markus Nävergård

I know I am super behind, but I can’t believe Eli didn’t say anything about Noah’s slip up when he says “My butt fucking backup cam” at about 1 hour and 4 minutes

Mark Warren

Batman doesn't kill people in the same way that people doing pacifist runs of Dark Souls "don't kill people".

Markus D

one of the more insane skits they've ever done, fantastic work

I'd like to nominate SpaceCamp (1986) for the next secular GAM. About a bunch of kids that go into space accidentally because of a problem with the space shuttle. Coincidentally released just a few months after the Challenger accident. 😬

3rd Amendment Truther

Nicole Kidman was and is GORGEOUS.

Patrick Carr

I still have a sealed Batman Forever Pog collector set I bought at a blockbuster lol.

Jesse Marshall

Two-Face is never at odds with his coin. He's at odds with himself. Hence the coin. Harvey is constantly at odds with his alter ego (Bad Harvey). Maybe Harvey wants to spare a person while BH wants to kill them. Or Harvey wants to kill them quick while BH wants to kill them slow. But both sides fully respect the flip of the coin. He never gets pissy with the result. And neither personality are idiots who flip over the things Jones did. This is just Schumacher not caring about the source material. They're just cartoons to him.

Eric Esders

I think Batman was okay with acid because he was played so... basic.

Oxford Comma is Mandatory

Eli's Tim Burton made me cry laughing. I need more Eli Tim Burton.

CarrieBoo

I think this is the second pg13 movie I ever saw in theaters...even then I remember it being kind of a train wreck, but most super hero movies were in the 90's And the batman forever snes game...my god, describing it as barely functional is generous. It's right up there with superman 64

I had this movie memorized as a teen, particularly Tommy Lee Jones' monologue. Whenever I'm making myself a cheap meal I'm reminded of the "Well, in your case, beer and pizza" line. This movie introduced me to a better version of Jim Carrey, too. I didn't like the Ace Ventura movies all that much. Entertaining but definitely geared toward the teenage boy crowd. "And what a grand pursuit you must be" gets me every time. I unapologetically still like this campy movie. It's the best kind of campy.

Rachel J Larris

Oh

Rachel J Larris

I feel that they are both terrible movies, but I enjoy watching B & R because it is so over the top insane and weird. To me, this movie is the boring kind of bad instead of the fun kind of bad.

Daniel Mancini

Batman Returns from 1992 is my favourite old Batman movie from the 90s and probably my fav comic book film of all time. It's so absurdly campy and I love it. I'll be happy if GAM ever does Batman Returns.

Peter Kyrouac

they so wanted two face to be the Joker in this, because that is how they make Tommy Lee Jones play him

Markus Nävergård

Since the "chair" rushes you down and also dresses you as Batman, during the skit when they kept saying chair and activating it over and over I was imaging an endless amount of Batman suits being expended with no one in the chair.

James Robbins

Holy hell the reference to their old employer send me down a very happy YouTube rabbit hole

Jason the Beav

It would be appropriate if they announced a review of it, but didn't release the review until sometime in the next couple years.

Uriah Jackson

I can't see BDW doing this roll. He's jucking Lando! He probably noped out just like Keaton.

Vincent Jorgensen

Oh, and please don't take this to mean I'm defending this garbage movie in any way. I took my then-girlfriend to see it when it hit the cinemas, and I had to do a lot of apologising to ensure I'd get to marry her twenty years later.

Starshark

I thought boiling acid was more reactive (don't yell at me, I failed high school chemistry), but when I looked it up, I couldn't find anything. What I DID find was that acid "boils" (bubbles vigorously) when it's more reactive, so the boiling could be all the metal and shit getting fucked up. Anyway, I wanted to be a pedant, so there it is. Hang on, someone at the door. You're who? The Pedant-Eating Monster? What the hell is- AIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

Starshark

It does. I feel like another recent episode also did but I'd have to go back through them.

Markus D

Heath is wrong. GEE-ger is the correct pronunciation.

El Oso Café

Most people focus on Val Kilmer replacing Michael Keaton, but there's another notable recasting: Tommy Lee Jones is replacing Billy Dee Williams (who played Harvey Dent in the Burton movies).

Uriah Jackson

Super hero with a supportive family? That's the third Blue Beetle, Jaime Reyes.

Danial Gibson

1. Veggie straws are great. 2. Battleship would be great! I won’t watch it but would love to your a review

Jason the Beav

Is it just me or do these seem to cut off weird at the end like mid sentence or mid add

Oke518

Thank you for this! The 90’s classics I loved as a kid are so good to hear a hilarious review of.

Nolan B.

The Blast Zone Podcast covered it. This is going to be better, tho.

Vincent Jorgensen

I wish you covered more CBM material, but I love it when you do.

Matt Eldritch

I swear to Christ you guys did this one already. Well... Fuck it!

Al Yako

I apologetically love this movie. I can't wait for the roast!

Vincent Jorgensen

I remember hating this movie so much that when B&R came out, I actually didn't think it was as bad by comparison. Idk HOW I came to that conclusion, but there it is.

Bobby Tropicana

Never watched this one but I love Val Kilmer. I'm sure you all roasted him into the dirt, lol.

Justin S.

Can i pre nominate flash 23 for next month?
