The vandalism-wish-rock idea was first presented (as far as I know) in "It's a Wonderful Life" where George takes Mary to the Old Granville House on Sycamore St and says that if he breaks a window he gets his wish. He throws and misses, she throws and hits, then drives him crazy by not telling him what she wished.
