Hemmer (the blind engineer) is an Aenar, a subspecies of the Andorians that we first saw in “Star Trek: Enterprise” season 4. About Spock, if you remember when we saw him in “The Cage” and in “Where No Man Has Gone Before” he was more emotional and actually smiled a couple of times. He wasn’t as rigid and stoic as he is later. I think Ethan Peck is portraying that Spock.

Pike is in the Klingon monastery as he talked about with Spock in episode one and has to get a temporal crystal to stop the big bad from this season of discovery. The Klingon monk tells him if he takes this crystal His fate will be what he sees.
