Honestly some interesting thoughts and takes. Just goes to show everybody perceives things differently. For me, firstly we've been with Ellie in the first game. We see her growth and development. Not only as a kid, but a kid learning to somewhat survive in this harsh world. Fast forward 5 years, not only do I think it's implied, but people can be wiser or more mature beyond their age. Now you never said this, but I never viewed Ellie as girl boss or over the top female protagonist. But they've always made her capable and can imagine she's learned a lot in the 5 years with Joel & Tommy. While not long flash back, they show very small tid bits of her learning more skills. I always thought it was natural and they do a great job through gameplay, making Ellie more nimble and having to use her environment to survive. And I would say Dina and Ellie still make mistakes and at times act a little immature. But that's just how I perceived much of her character and never thought she was acting out of place. I know I am biased, but I would much rather have video game Ellie over season 2 Ellie so far. And again that's not all Bella's fault, but tone issues, directing issues and writing choices they've made for the show. Some will like it, some will not.

So one complaint I had about the game is that they wrote Dina and Ellie as TOO adult, like they're 19 but they feel like they could just as easily be 30. Whereas in the show it's the opposite problem, they almost feel too young at times. It definitely feels very YA at times and I'm not really a big fan, however I'm giving the show some benefit of the doubt and assuming they're trying to fill us up on sugar because the salt is coming with the next stage. I will say, regarding the complaint about Ellie not showing how much she misses Joel enough, Craig Mazin has talked about how Ellie doesn't really show that part of herself to anyone, as if it's reserved specifically for Joel and her. He referenced Ellie crying in Joel's closet as she held his jacket, immediately wiping the tears away when she heard Dina's voice, as a moment indicating that her grieving is a deeply personal part of her that she shows no one. Given that we've seen Ellie around another person pretty much every single moment since leaving Joel's house, it makes sense that she hasn't shown that part of herself since then. Notice that in the two scenes where Ellie is by herself in this episode, the hospital and with the guitar, she has this empty, wide eyed look on her face. Not emotionless, but like there's this simmering anger. I think that feeling is always there for her, but in her head, Dina doesn't need to see that. And once Ellie has the opportunity to do what she does to Nora, the anger comes flying out with each swing of that pipe.

I thought about this also and I overall agree with the sentiment. But the issue I feel liks, as in the writers, don't even attempt to give Ellie/Bella scenes by herself. While yes it's easier to convey in the game because you are the character and there's sections Ellie is by herself. But they skip over the whole Hillcrest neighborhood section. I understand it's an adaptation and not going to be 100% same, but I feel like they aren't even giving Bella a chance to show case her acting skills and convey Ellie's revenge parts that were solo, until literally end of this episode. And I do feel like they are moving rather quick through the story. Granted many have pointed out, if you remove gameplay, total actual cutscenes and story is roughly between 2, maybe 4 hours. But they just skip to Ellie finding Nora, not even her sneaking into and fighting her way into the hospital, or fighting the scars solo. It's a tad bit disappointing I feel like.

Ellie is best when she's alone being a psychopath. Dina tends to outshine her when they are together unfortunately

I must say, I like when you throw in extra thoughts. I guess the YT audience can be a lot harder on y'all than your patreon audience. I think "leandro" & "chefboyarkey" both hit good points and y'all already hit a lot also, not much more I could really add in myself. I would only say, it would be cool to see all 3 of you do a playthrough of the second game together. Y'all 3 are hilarious though lol Molly " Ellie and Dina finger blasting each other" and you both giggle with your hand on your eyes lmao And Molly and Courtney covering their faces while Lia is just watching the scars cut a dude open XD

I just don’t think you can accurately capture the games narrative with a television shows narrative. In the game, at least to me, Ellie is a psychopath. She’s off the deep end and shes a serial murderer. Yes she shows contrition at times, but in the game it’s a lot easier to gloss over the fact she’s killed scores of people because YOU are actually the one doing it. It’s different when you’re observing it and I think the show is trying balance that with Ellie’s character . To me she’s more believable in the show, in the game she doesn’t even care that Dina is preggers and if they had that in the show it would just make her so unlikable. So I hear you they’re kinda not adapting the game 1:1 even with the emotional stakes not just the actual events and it’s kinda jarring but still I like the show

You're completely justified on your complaints about Ellie's inital lack of seriousness for Seattle Day One and Two, I think heaps of people feel the same way, not just the gamers who've played Part 2. This season was to supposed to be focused primarily on Ellie's unwavering desire and urgency for revenge. This TV adaptation has initally had this Ellie and Dina acting way too casually like they're on a sightseeing adventure rather than on a mission, "we're all having a baby" wth was that??, not at all matching the real dark and voilent narrative of the game, it was kinda annoying and cringey to watch at times. But overall I agree this was still a good episode in my opinion and still enteraining to watch nonetheless. I just hope they can stay more true to the source material for the remainder of the season because I'm hoping it starts to get really interesting when we start to also see Abby's version of events in Seattle
