Despite the fact that I’m a huge Ymir hater (which is like not even a top ten reason AoT fans would want me specifically dead) I really do think, with the hindsight of the series being over, that this is the best stretch of the show/arc of the manga—the back half of season 1 and the whole of season 2. Season 3 and 4 have great character moments and production value but I think the back half of the whole story is too focused on trying to be complex and morally grey or whatever that it ends up being too flimsy to support its own weight. But like I said that’s an unpopular opinion (but the correct one, because I’ve never been wrong in my life). It is still very much worth watching and is enjoyable through the end, but I think the consensus opinions on the show in general start to break with the reality of the text not long after this part of the story. Funnily enough, I think this is one of the show’s best episodes. But where the wheels start to squeak a bit is when Christa/Historia’s story gets fleshed out in Season 3. She and Levi are by far the most important characters in the front half of the third season after the Main Three, and for me cracks start to appear in the structural foundation of the story in that storyline—but as I will continue to emphasize, this is a minority opinion (albeit a correct one)

So Ymir was telling Christa on that snowy mountain - don't get yourself killed to be a hero. It seemed Christa just wanted out and was unconcerned about living and so she wanted to die a hero or attempting to be one. Next we see Ymir jumping down to her death to save everyone... When Christa figured it out she starts yelling the same thing to Ymir - don't be a hero!, what are you doing?! "Don't act like you're a good girl! Live for yourself!!" I'm getting emotional so I'll stop here... 🥺😶 because you see it's Ymir who is trying to live truthfully. She ended up acting exactly like Historia except that she understood her own motivations making her actions even more selfless and heroic.
