Patreon Update: Up-front charge enabled
Added 2021-06-27 13:45:16 +0000 UTCMaking a public post to address an update I've made to the page, as I've just enabled up-front charge for my Patreon, which means that any new patrons will now see their pledges processed immediately as opposed to processing automatically at the beginning of each month.
Obviously this will not affect existing patrons.
To explain, Patreon has a three option system for processing pledges, which is as follows:
- 1. Monthly
Charge my patrons at the start of every month. - 2. Up-front charge
Charge my patrons up front. - 3. Pay-per-creation
Charge my patrons only when I make a Paid Post (whew).
Unfortunately for some reason, once you enable up-front charge, it is a permanent change, so ticking that option will permanently exclude you from ever being able to enable the other two processing options.
I had to weigh the decision for a while before making the change, but I've done this to combat the increasingly higher volume of drive-bys that have been occurring, where people would pledge, plunder the page of exclusive content, and then unpledge before the 1st of the month, meaning they wouldn't be charged. Initially I didn't pay the pirates much attention because I took it from a point of flattery, thinking "Oh, well, this just means that people really like my art", which is also nice, but then I realised that it wasn't very fair to my existing patrons, many of whom may be making the decision to support me purely for access to exclusive content. So, hopefully this change will deter that kind of behaviour.
Anyway, just thought I'd let people know. Thanks again for your support, love you all ❤️

2021-06-29 16:10:25 +0000 UTCI've seen this happen to other artists, what they usually did was to make a tier that had a singular download link that would have all the files in 1. Avoiding the whole having to download everything by post incentivizing that tier instead. (they also had front-up charge enabled eitherway)
