My brother has a master's degree in intelligent robotics. He's now part of an international research team looking into, effectively, "robot genetics", and the idea of robots being able to evolve themselves, in a sense, by modifying and building themselves according to what they want to do or what is most advantageous in a given environment. The field is very much in its infancy and a very very long way from anything such as this, but... it could happen.

So you may have noticed that the whole show is one big 9/11 allegory. While 9/11 obviously didn't kill 99% of the American population, it did create a fundamental sense of vulnerability and loss in the American psyche. So the show is about how people live with that loss, how we cope, and how we move on. But it does even more interesting things with this allegory. The cycle of humans creating mechanical slaves, the slaves rebelling, human civilisation being destroyed, and the survivors fleeing to a different planet, only to create mechanical slaves again is an allegory for the cycle of violence, for that narrative of "they started it" in every war. The show deliberately obscures the start of this cycle in myth, because it doesn't matter. Assigning blame solves nothing, in the end, when the show suggests the cycle may have been broken, peace may have been achieved, it is because humans and cylon actively choose reconciliation and cooperation. One thing they do differently in the show is the New Caprica arc, where the "good guys", the perspective characters live under an occupation regime that claims to be there to enforce peace. The show suggests that terror tactics are permissible under such conditions, which is a brave take to have at the height of the War on Terror. Also, fun fact: Cavil erases the memories of most cylons about the Final Five, but obviously he doesn't erase his own. That means he knows what happened to them, he knows the fate of the original Earth, how the mechanical cylons turned on their humanoid cylon creators. This is why he's so freaked out when the Sixes give free will to the centurions, he's afraid that the same thing will happen to his own humanoid cylon civilisation.

Head six told baltar when he heard helo and athena talk about a baby being born in the cell and baltar realises she can see the future and has confirmed she'snot a chip: 'i am an angel of god sent to guide you to humanity's end'. This was early to halfway thru season 2. It's been there the whole time and is super obvious on a rewatch

Great reaction series! I've always thought that what was pulling the strings could be an AI so ancient and advanced it would have been godlike to humans. Remember that avatar Baltar said it didn't like being called "God" and avatar Six just gave him a look like, it might as well be. They also talked about the endless cycles of creation and destruction of AI and humans, it could have been the first iteration cylon of a civilization gone billions of years by the time the show started.

By the way, that Opera Scene started in the Season 1 finale. They show a shot of Season 1 Balter in that sequence. And in the finale scene, the guy reading the magazine Head Six and Head Baltar are staring at is Ronald D Moore. This show is also great on the re-watch because you can see all these small characters moving through the story.

Same as you. I don't usually like deus ex machina because it's often lazy writting coming out of nowhere but in this case we've been hearing about god for 4 seasons and since the episode 4x1 or 2, i was pretty sure it was a real thing. Maybe they used Starbuck a lot for that, might be my only complaint but whatever. For me it was still great.

My favourite clue was when Sam was telling them about the apocalypse on the original Earth, and he said that they had visitors with familiar faces, sometimes a man, sometimes a woman, who no one else could see, that warned each of the five that the end was coming and to prepare. The angels have been intervening for a long long time!

Really happy you enjoyed the ending! For some reason it was really controversial, up there with Game of Thrones and Lost for endings that a lot of people got really angry about, and I've never understood why. I think a lot of people didn't twig onto the divine intervention clues through the entire show, then felt the last episode they suddenly pulled a 'god did it' or something, and complained they didn't 'get an explaination of what Starbuck was' which baffles me. Am not sure, either way I think its one of the most brilliant wrap ups of TV shows. My all time favourite show, its been a pleasure to rewatch with you!

This has been such a journey. Loving this series and it has been a pleasure to follow along your experience watching it for the first time. Looking forward to "The Plan". There is also the other movie "Razor" that you haven't watched yet and that is well worth a watch, even though it belongs further back in the storyline. Also looking forward to "Caprica" as I've only watched that show once before.
