David Strathairn is doing a fantastic job as Ashford. He's being sort of set up as a villain, maybe it's the Pirate-Belter dialect, but what he says is very wise and coming from a lifetime worth of experience. He's a really complex and interesting character. He knew right away that Naomi was going to desert and doesn't miss much.
