How To Downgrade Steam Games

This tutorial will help guide you on how to downgrade your Steam games. Downgrading might be needed if something doesn't work correctly on an updated game version and helps ensure that you are able to access something the way it was meant to be.

1. Press WINDOWS + R Key

2. Type "steam://open/console" without the quotation marks and press "OK"

3. A console should pop up.

4. The main Steam console command to download old patches, etc. is "download_depot <AppID> <Depot ID> <Manifest ID>"

5. Find these ID's using SteamDB , they will be different depending on the game!

EXAMPLE: Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered Downgrade To 1.817.1.0

App ID: 1817070

Depot ID: 1817071 (Asset_Archive Files) (10 August 2022)

Manifest ID: 6817730189104646848

Depot ID: 1817072 (Executables) (18 August 2022)

Manifest ID: 4982092008808490883

6. Run both these commands without quotation marks to download the game files and executables from that previous patch.

This downloads the main game archive files

"download_depot 1817070 1817071 6817730189104646848"

This downloads the executables

"download_depot 1817070 1817072 4982092008808490883"

7. Wait for all downloads to complete.

8. You should get confirmation message saying "Depot download complete" with the directory it saved it to. These are your downgrade / patch files!

9. Head to the directory, and keep these files somewhere safe incase Steam auto-updates (it will), so you can downgrade and use old mods that are intended for it, etc.

10. Here we can confirm that the executable is indeed downgraded.

11. Now all you need to do is copy those downgrade files into the game's main directory, wherever that is. In this example we copy those files from "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\content\app_1817070\depot_1817072" to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered". Make sure to overwrite everything and keep the downgrade files as backup incase of updates like I said. If you want to revert back to the latest game version just use Steam's verify integrity feature.

That's it you're done! :D

Comments

Doesn't work for TLOU

I'm getting a black screen when I run the downgraded game.

has anyone found out the right numbers for steam DB?

I don't know what I have to use for files, that's really complicated

how do you find the manifest id on steamdb?

How many files should be in the depot_1817071 folder?

Mark Haley

Hello Smelly_Patreon, you have to use the other one for that game, specifically only the game's executables.

For the first person mod, do I use the executables ver. of the Depot ID or it doesn't matter? edit: I realized that I just use this "download_depot 1817070 1817071 6817730189104646848" right?
