Papa Adama lost sight of it, and that's why his fleet will pay the price- sooner, or later, cause there is a difference between when you can negotiate, and you know what can stop/prevent a war, and this situation in which, only term to end the war seems to be: end of the human race, by Cylons, I'm allergic to: "we have no choice", cause it's 99% wrong, but this seems to be that 1%, and people are acting like they have a choice..

Part of why I love this episode so much is that it encourages us to see things from Cain's point of view. We've seen and heard about Cain the monster, and she has done monstrous things, no question. But this is war. And we learn that she seems fully aware that she is a monster. She knows it, she accepts it. Her goal is for her people to survive. Period, full stop, end of story. All means are justified. She does not believe that in order to survive you must be worthy of it. Where does that kind of thinking lead you, worrying about whether you deserve life or not? In a moment-to-moment war situation, for goodness sake? Well, if you fail to do the necessary, you die. And hooray for you, you and your people can happily decompose or float forever in the vacuum of space secure in the knowledge that you died 'ethically'. What kind of BS is that? You're still dead. So she willingly takes on the weight of those awful decisions she feels she must make. She does it because she's a leader and it's her job. You can see how hard it is for her in the little exchange with Starbuck, and her few moments in private, massaging her neck, clearly exhausted. I remember when they destroyed the Olympic Carrier. Papa Adama said that a man doesn't second-guess the decisions he makes. He accepts them and lives with them every day. And, he said to Lee, they did what they had to do. THAT is Cain's philosophy in a nutshell. So... yep. I love the morally grey nature of this. It's so stimulating and interesting, and it's done so well that I can passionately argue from multiple points of view.

Fuck Cain. Good riddance. If she had her way, the civilian fleet would have been left behind/killed and then what is left to even fight for. Her and Adama/President would have never been able to come to terms, sooner or later she would have taken Adama out.

RADM Cain died the way she lived, but the way it happened is unforgivable, Adama's fleet has been infiltrated, they are collaborators without knowing it, it has become their natural behavior-sympathisers, and can only hope that sympathy is mutual, cause they're not ready- Adama needed to "learn" that he shouldn't FAIL in the attempt to assassinate his superior officer, from the Cylon that his officers are in love with, while civilians are commanding his fleet during the time of war..congratulations Admiral..
