There's a fun little callback at the end of this episode, which I just caught after my millionth time watching the opening miniseries. It's why I love rewatching the series so much, I pick up new things every time. The automated broadcast we hear in Part 1, that is designed to be sent out if the President, the Vice President and most of the cabinet are dead or incapacitated, says: "This is an Official Colonial Government broadcast. All ministers and officials should now go to Case Orange". At the end of this episode, Admiral Cain tells Fisk that her code term will be "Execute Case Orange". I'm wondering if there is a section, in whatever training manuals or officer-candidate instruction Cain received, where the officer is 100% entitled to shoot the crap out of any other officer, any civilian or any government official at any level. Maybe if that officer deems it necessary according to a very specific list of conditions. Military requisition is one thing - of course she's done that, as well as prioritising military above all. We know she had people killed. I'm thinking a step beyond even that, in terms of destroying an entire command structure, which is what she told Fisk she wanted. Case Orange means everyone's dead, but perhaps Cain's usage of the term means you can create a Case Orange situation *yourself* and take out anyone in line, military or governmental. And I don't mean by murdering them, I mean legally. It would be just like Cain to be doing it "by the book", as she would describe it. She wouldn't even be wrong to do so, not from her perspective. That's another reason I love BSG so much. We can argue from all sides and we are shown the others' perspectives, which is an incredible feat of storytelling.

never approved it, but war was horrible, it happened more than few times, situation required "suitable" punishment, or one extremely harsh, to make an example of what will not be tolerated, and same thing happened to those who "fell in love", or similar...and soon people/soldiers realized how things were, and were afraid to do "IT" even if they wanted to..

I hope however, that you would expect your men to try to stop their rapist colleague from raping an enemy prisoner, whether they were in love with the prisoner or not. Kill him? No. Stop him? Yes. Raping an enemy prisoner is extremely dishonourable (not to mention stupid when you're trying to get information out of them) and would bring your whole unit into disrepute, including you as their commanding officer.

abuse of prisoners was something I never approved as high ranked military leader and officer during the war, but I would never let my soldiers to foolishly kill their rapist "colleague" in attempt to stop him from raping the enemy prisoner, cause they're in love with that prisoner, all that just wouldn't have happened while I'm a division commander and flag officer..cause if letting those things to happen like that, we would've lost that war..

Oooh, I certainly didn't mean to suggest that what has been done to this Six is no different to Starbuck and Leoben! Not the case at all. The point for me is that our side has taken part in some pretty morally grey stuff and the Cylons have certainly carried out their share of nastiness as well. Nothing justifies gang raping this woman. Nothing. Her trauma is always incredibly hard to watch, as is the repulsive crowing of the rapists that we saw last week, that worst kind of male-bonding, egotistical dick-waving about just how good they raped her and how many times they did so. This isn't just torture, you're right. This isn't self-preservation, this isn't a situation where Leoben tells us there's a nuke and almost dares Starbuck to torture the information out of him.

Admiral Cain doesn't want to go back to Caprica to "kick Cylons' as*es", but she knows that Starbuck does... Military needs first, that's military dictatorship, while Galactica is protecting much bigger civilian fleet and running from Cylons, they've lost almost 10 000 civilians in the process, what is 10times more than Cain "abandoned", civilians are dying on both sides and having it hardest, why? Cause it's war, they're at war, make no mistake- they are.
