Since last post we have started work on implementing proximity voice chat in WreckMP. Despite countless attempts on tweaking Steam settings and the code, we couldn’t get the Steam microphone input to work reliably, without being randomly cut out or choppy. At the moment, we are experimenting with using the microphone directly, in order to gain full control over what’s happening with the voice.
Once we have the core of the proximity voice chat working fluently, we are planning to implement the following settings:
Wide range input gain: so you can easily boost volume of your mic
Voice color: If your mic is too boomy, you can use this setting to lower the bass
Sensitivity: Control how loud your mic input has to be in order for others to hear you
Push to talk: Toggle whether you’ll be using push to talk or always on
PTT keybind: For customizing your push to talk key
Voice muffling: When enabled, if other players are talking e.g. behind a wall, you’ll hear the voice muffled (might lower fps on low end machines)
Voice echo: When you’re in the open, you can hear your and other players’ voice’s echo returning from the forest (might lower fps on low end machines)
Thank you for reading till the end and see you next Sunday!
