Using HDRI's as backplates with projection mapping

As mentioned in the previous post, this video walks you through a nice way to use projection mapping on your HDRI's to get real exterior perspective, that allows you to use your HDRI's as backplates with proper distance and scale while at the same time enjoying the benefits of having a backplate that perfectly matches your lighting both in terms of exposure, color and angle.

The video briefly explans my fanatism around HDRI's as I want to "rediscover" the way we can use them. Sadly there aren't many HDRI's out there that are actually suited to use with projection mapping, but I hope I'll be able to change that at least a little bit.

Yeah i was wondering the exact same thing, im currently working on a project in Corona that it wuld be super useful for too. USing the CoronaShadwCatcher material, the projection still slides when i pan left/right or zoom in and out

Is it possible to do such projection mapping in the Corona?

I've made a video of it a couple of months ago here on patreon. Let me know if you can't find it. If there's anything you're wondering that isn't already covered, please let me know :)

Where can we learn more about your multi-GPU rig (x3, 3090) and how you set it up, etc.?

Genius!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEpcQWVVnIg This video shows very well whats possible with this method. Great to see this in combination with FStorm.

Mega job \o/

Great knowledge, worth to try ! So far I used only planar (bottom) projection.

Awesome ! This will be so useful in the future. No more heavy scenes with tons of trees and 3D buildings in the background! Thank you
