Developers 343 Industries have completely overhauled Halo Infinite's traditional multiplayer components, and actually went into some detail on these changes in an overview video released earlier this week. With Infinite boasting F2P multiplayer for the first time cosmetics are very important - and players will be given detailed control over various customisation elements.
- The video also confirmed that the game will feature a battle pass system as well as a storefront, but 343 have made it clear that Halo Infinite will not feature random loot boxes. Infinite's battle passes won't be time-limited, either, so players will be able to work through them at their own pace and even purchase older ones.
Capcom have started work on Resident Evil Village DLC
The news comes directly from Capcom's own E3 livestream, where they confirmed that DLC is coming "by popular demand." That's about it as far as details go, with Capcom saying they have "just started" development and will share "more info soon." It'll be interesting to see what this DLC turns out to be given that Capcom apparently weren't originally planning to make it.
- In other Resident Evil news - multiplayer spin-off title RE:Verse will launch next month. Capcom have reconfirmed that it will be free to anyone who already owns Village, though presumably it will also be available to purchase separately. Still strange that the two games didn't launch simultaneously.
Everwild reportedly rebooted, now aiming for 2024
The game was conspicuously absent from Microsoft's E3 broadcast and now sources reportedly suggest that development has been restarted "from scratch" and is targeting a new 2024 release window. The game got new trailers at previous Microsoft events, but now it looks like it'll be a while before we hear from it again.
- Even with those couple of trailers, however, we never really knew an awful lot about Everwild - though reports suggest it was an action-adventure with some god game elements. The reboot was apparently prompted by creative director Simon Woodroffe's departure last year. Gregg Mayles, one of Rare's most senior creative, is now leading development.
BioWare name new studio GM
BioWare announced this week that Gary McKay will be their new studio General Manager following Casey Hudson's departure back in December. McKay had actually held the role in an interim capacity since Hudson's exit, having joined BioWare last year initially as Head of development operations.
- It's encouraging that BioWare have finally named some permanent leadership and McKay has quite the pedigree with a career in gaming spanning more than two decades. In a statement, he said that BioWare are "laser-focused on releasing the types of games [the studio] has built a reputation on." These include Dragon Age and Mass Effect, though McKay also stated that there's "more to come" from Star Wars: The Old Republic in its 10th anniversary year.
