The project, which is codenamed "BattleCat", leaked onto social media earlier this week via what looks to be an internal marketing document. The game is still in the early stages of development, but it's a first-person shooter aiming for a PC and console release.
- The curious thing is that BattleCat looks set to combine the Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, and Division game universes together into one grand Tom Clancy experience. Each game's appearing characters will effectively act as different playable classes, each with their own unique abilities. It sounds interesting enough - though it could be a while before we hear from it.
Activision are working on another mobile Call of Duty title
Activision have set up a new internal studio tasked with "developing the best AAA mobile games in world", and their first project will a new Call of Duty mobile title. Activision's website currently has a number of job listings looking for people "who share our belief in what AAA experiences on mobile can and should be."
- Activision Mobile is yet to actually be officially announced but the studio have definitely hit the ground running. It must be a tall order developing a follow-up to Call of Duty Mobile of all things - with its over 500m downloads and $1bn in player spending. Activision also want mobile games based on their other top franchises, so watch this space.
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake has been delayed again
Ubisoft's adventure in nostalgia has been delayed twice since it was first unveiled back in September, and now it doesn't look like we'll be seeing it until next year. It was originally supposed to release this past January but was pushed to March before being delayed indefinitely so the team can take their time to deliver "a remake that feels fresh while remaining faithful to the original".
- Things have been very quiet since then, but Ubisoft recently confirmed that the remake will be entirely absent from their Ubisoft Forward stream. The announcement did also state that the team are making "great progress" working towards a 2022 release - though they aren't ready to share any more information just yet.
Horizon Forbidden West's PS4 version apparently hasn't held the game back
The recent confirmation that Horizon Forbidden West will be releasing on both PS4 and PS5 sparked some concern that the game would suffer from having to juggle developing across two generations. Guerrilla Games aren't worried, though, with game director Mathijs de Jonge emphasising that the studio didn't have to scale back their ambitions to align with PS4 hardware.
- De Jonge told Hardware Zone that he didn't feel cross-gen development was "limiting in any way." Apparently, so many ideas ended up making it into the game that the team didn't really think about hardware limitations which, in the post-Cyberpunk 2077 world, is a uniquely concerning sentiment. It does feel like something has to give with cross-gen development, but a pleasant surprise would be very welcome.
