Duriel and Zamiel - The Battle Brothers

Duriel and Zamiel are two characters who are fairly new to the Cryopod lore. They come exclusively from Refresh, and did not appear in Classic. They have not had much onscreen time, as of Part 215, and therefore I will not reveal anything which I consider to be a spoiler about their origins and identities.

Both of the Battle Brothers are renowned among demons for their excessive cruelty. While Gressil might be a terrifying and brutal existence among demonkind, the Battle Brothers merely sit within the outer limits of what demons find acceptable. Most demons don't mind torturing fleshbags and performing all kinds of horrific violence upon them, but few go to as extreme of lengths as Duriel and Zamiel.

Duriel, the younger, but much bigger brother, is the berserker of the two. His gigantic body allows him to dominate other beings with his sheer size. Despite appearances, he is the more intelligent of the two brothers, and uses his huge size to his advantage, zoning out enemies so his older brother can get in hits and cause as much pain and suffering as possible.

Zamiel, the older, but smaller brother, is not quite as quick-minded as Duriel, but makes up for it with his effective cunning and trickery. While he may lack the raw power of his younger brother, he balances Duriel's power with his own speed and ferocity. Much like the younger Barbatos of the Ancient Era, Zamiel wields claw-like gauntlets, allowing him to tear apart his enemies with his fingertips. His silver-colored demonstone armor absorbs just as much damage as Duriel's gold-colored armor, allowing him to take one hell of a beating.

Both brothers also possess nearly identical magical abilities. Duriel and Zamiel are Weaponmasters, allowing them to wield any weapon at its peak efficiency. They can also summon ethereal weapons into existence, much like a certain other character from a different series.

I created the Battle Brothers to fill a specific role - that of being Kar's antagonists. These two despicable demons, many hundreds (or thousands? It's not clear yet) of years before Jason came to the future, slaughtered Kar's entire family. 

Their role as Kar's antagonist also gives the Battle Brothers an existing conflict with one of the secondary good guys in my story. Kar is really likable, so us getting to see him battle it out with the demons who butchered his family is sure to result in an exciting payoff!

There is plenty more I could say about the Battle Brothers. However, much of what I would like to say is spoilery, and so, I will leave it unsaid. Continue reading Refresh, and eventually, all shall be made clear!
