The Demon Throne Series: Belial's Regret (+Bonus image!)

Belial is one of the longest-lived characters in all of Cryopod. She first appeared in Chapter 2 of Cryopod Classic, and was a succubus from the very beginning. Her powers haven't changed much since her inception. Stretchy limbs, super strength, and shapeshifting were always her forte.

However, her personality and backstory have undergone huge changes for Cryopod Refresh.

In Classic, she was sort of just a flirty succubus who reaaaaally wanted to have sex with Jason. Kinda boring, somewhat cringy, and the product of writing 200,000 words in two weeks. The backlash to her arrival made me realize that I needed to do better at writing characters, though it still took me a full year of writing to really improve at crafting characters.

Once I started writing Refresh, I made big changes to Belial's backstory and character. Now, her only true love is Satan. She believes, deep in her heart, that she will never love another man ever again. However, that restriction does not hold true for women. She falls head over heels for Phoebe, mostly because Phoebe is a kind and caring person like herself, but eventually she realizes Phoebe is even better than she first thought when Phoebe releases her inner strength to protect Jason at all costs.

Belial is a succubus, which strongly implies that she should be prominently straight. However, as revealed earlier in the series, succubi and incubi suffer immeasurably due to their strong sexual pheromones, which cause the opposite sex of other species to treat them as lumps of meat. This, in turn, traumatizes the succubi and incubi, eventually causing them to swear off the opposite sex.

Belial isn't that coldhearted. She treats men and women with respect. However, when it comes to her romantic attraction, only Satan and Phoebe give her any excitement.

The above images show Belial's Regret at having lost the man she once loved. After seeing him revive, only to turn to ashes in her grasp, a hole opens in Belial's chest. She realizes she can never be with Satan ever again. What path will she walk? Will she allow Phoebe to stay with Jason, or will Belial pursue the one she loves, lest she once again feel that same ache in her chest?

Only time will tell.

The next character on the menu is Orias! We already have a mockup image for him, and so far, things are looking good! Now that MWTX is all settled into his new house, I plan to get around to Patron-only images, along with the demon throne stuff, in the near future!
