Virtual Camera

After spending way too long figuring out a virtual camera workflow and overcoming all the FUC###G obsticles on the way without any help from google because obviously noone else in the entire world has ever faced the same problems I did, finally I got it working.

If you're not familiar with the concept, a virtual camera basically lets you film a 3D-set live, while using your iPad (or some other solution) as a handheld camera. So you can walk around "inside" your 3D-scene and film it.

I know this Patreon page isn't focused much on film and VFX and I know that many of you probably couldn't care less about it.  But it's a dream of mine to get good at this, so obviously there will be more content on this Patreon ahead, focused on this kind of stuff.

This video is the first successful test using virtual camera and obviously this will all be explained here on Patreon. I also received my motion capture gloves today, so I have all the reason in the world to start producing more if this kind of content!

Don't be mistaken, i personally am also here for this kind of VFX-centric content so i'm pleased to see you share you finding with us :)

Video coming up! :-)

You're not pissing at all, virtual camera in Unreal is exactly what I used. However it was not with a paid Android app, but with their own iOS app which sucks donkey balls. They released a new version of Unreal Engine that is ironically enough not really compatible with the currrently available iOS app. So I used an older version of unreal to have it compatible with the app, but that version wouldn't export all camera movements, only rotation. So I was trying to figure out how to bake the cameras which after 2 hours of googling, I gave up on. Tried again installing the newer version of Unreal, and find ways to have that working with the outdated iOS app, which I eventually figured out how to do. Unreal is maybe the most unintuitive piece of software I've worked with so far, really hope UE5 comes with a complete UX overhaul.

amazing, would love to know how you figured out

Nice work ! :) Not to piss on your parade but .... there is a plug in on UE4 that does that .... https://www.unrealengine.com/marketplace/en-US/product/virtual-plugin (they have a demo mode that you can test out as well ) there is another but I cant think of what it is. You can put your character inside the scene and replace the background camera with the phone / tablet camera so when you open it your model is wherever. I done it for my castle tour in AR but it opens via QR code as I needed it at a specific angle etc. Maybe its not what you are trying to do .. Sorry edit.. came back to me :D Its the one that I used for my castle.. an AR scene in UE4 and you plop whatever inside the scene.. it opens and you can wander about with your device freely :D

Very very nice.
