Regarding Jason in the rewrite

Should Jason stay exactly the same as he is in the story right now, or should he have a somewhat altered personality?

Good point, Andrey.

I've written this on reddit but I think he should be like Aang from Avatar in Koora's flashbacks. Well experienced with his powers but still get's into tricky situations and has to come up with a new way to get out of them.

Well, to be fair, when the story is this long, if the protagonist gets too smart too quickly, then there's not much conflict when we're talking about a godly level of power. But, we shall see!

I have to say, I'd love for him to become a little more cunning. I wouldn't say 100% adhering to the end justifies the means mindset, but definitely more strategic and contemplative. It seems like he's not learning at a rate you would expect from the time he's lived. I just feel like he still acts timid and stuck as far as his powers are concerned. He has had lifetimes of experience that I feel like he doesn't entirely capitalize on. I am 100% addicted to this story and I cannot wait for it to be available for purchase! The amount of awesomeness this whole experience brings to the table is unprecedented! Thank you for continuing strong!

Well, I anticipate either separating the rewrite into several books, or cutting a lot of the time travel shenanigans out, but we shall see. I don't want to water the story down, but I don't want a bloated mess either. Amazon actually pushes against books with more than 120k words, so I have to find a good middle ground. Multiple books might be the only way to do it. Of course, for Jason's growth, I have a lot planned. We shall see how it all ends!

I've always liked Jason's character growth but it does seem a bit "slow". Slow is in quotes because we need to consider that we have a book with almost a half million words. It's HUGE. So it is in no way surprising that he isn't some brilliant super hero yet. And maybe he shouldn't be. I've often thought that the first few times a dictator or leader would have to choose who lives and who dies it is hard. After that, the decision becomes easier and easier. I really hope Jason does not become an "ends justify the means" type of person. But I do think he needs to become more hardened and more clever with his powers (really meaning, you will need to come up with even more cool shit Klok like the solution to Amelia's hunger problem). I agree with David though. I really like Jason as described by David and I hope you can keep a balance between that, character development, and a HUUUGE ass story.

I think this first draft version of Jason is kind of weak, so I'm hoping to make him a more interesting, memorable MC by the second and third revision!

That is a good response! I like where you're coming from.

I'm pretty good with characterizing an initial appearance or two, but it's maintaining and improving on each character's arc, especially when there are so many characters, that sets me up for failure! Of course, this is only the initial first draft, and I plan to fix up the final draft dramatically, but still. We shall see!

I agree with Dennis. He's a changed man from his act 1 days. Hopefully the rewrite will keep his same outlook (oh look! Awesome powers, hot chicks, totally destroying demons!). Now he's more calculated, trusts few people and knows a lot of lives rest on his shoulders

In the beginning of the story I like to think he was quite naive about the situation and world he is in and a bit good-hearted, after facing many of the tribulations he did I think he would become much more cynical and an "ends justify the means" kind of guy.

Brennen Clark

I'd say 'more cunning...'. You've already kinda set up the story for that slowly (mind slowly helping, killing the Volgrim, him realizing closed ones dieing and marrying Amelia). And now that Ben is dead.. he realizes he needs to do something instead of just holding back like he did before (before his decision on killing the Volgrim). Atleast.. that's how I have interpreted his "characted development".. He's alive for so long.. he should have learned a thing or two imho :P
