Zzzzphotogrammetryzzzz......

Sometimes I suffer from insomnia, so I just lay there in bed, endlessly rolling around and just can't seem to find a comfortable position. The brain is still in some kind of production mode. However these occations are sometimes the ones where you get the best ideas and I guess much of our proprietary texture scanning hardware we're currently building came to existence this way.

Last night I was trying to figure out the best ways of photogrammetry and what I could use it for, running "mental simulations" of different setups. I came to a few conclusions and this morning I ordered some new gear that I will specifically use for photogrammetry.

So in addition to HDRI's, if all goes well you'll also see a whole bunch of photogrammetry content on this channel, hopefully starting this year!

Anyway, that was just a little status update. Next video will be HDR + automotive together with some sample files for you!

For sure. I can't really go deep into the texture scanning solution me and Martin (Texture supply) uses as it's proprietary and we're building a hardware scanner with custom developed software. But for the simpler "home made solution" using Dabarti Studio I could definitely do a video about. However even though it's a great solution, I haven't had very good results with it using cheaper/easily accessible gear. I mean you really can get really good results with Dabarti, but it will require you to invest in some proper gear like flashes, cross polarization filters etc.

These are wonderful tips and I really appreciate that you took your time to write this :-)

I can relate to that. I get my best ideas at night or at the gym.

Hej Johannes, that sounds awesome, I'm looking forward to seeing your photogrammetry process and results. With regards to sleep, I want to share something with you, maybe you can find it useful and maybe you already know that. My attitude towards sleep has shifted lately and at the moment it's one of my priorities for mental clarity and physical health. There are 2 resources I can recomend on that, one is an episode of "Found my fitness" podcast featuring dr. Matthew Walker, the author of "Why we sleep?", the other "Sleep smarter" talk at Google by Shawn Stevenson. They are both authors of books that I haven't read, but I listened to their talks when I had some more 'mindless' tasks at work and it had an impact on my perception of the importance of sleep for memory consolidation and general well-being, as well as practical stuff you should do or avoid that can help with getting better sleep. Anyway, I wish you regular, high-quality sleep and lots of creativity during the day ;) and keep it up with your awesome works.

Nice...It would be even nicer if it includes also some “material scanning advices” so you can show us the correct path for rookies in that field. I’ve been struggling to scan fabric materials using my DSLR combined with Substance Designer and am not really with the final results...so I would be expecting this new series! 😜

Ive been looking at this too. Trying to figure out the best possible arduino controlled scanning rig for smaller items and dabarti for surfaces

So far not yet as I haven't spent much time on it myself and haven't had the oportunity to try different setups etc. But in a couple of weeks when I've had the time to really try it out in different scenarios and make some conclusions, I'll definitely share whatever I learn from it :)

Thats some nice news to hear on this quite Monday! Photogrammetry is something I would want to dive in too but it looks so damn complicated. Do you have any tips for a someone who is just starting it?
