Hey Y'all Wonderful People!

As most of you noticed I have not been active on Patreon. I thought my "mission" was finished and by starting Illusive Images I wouldn't have time for this, hence keeping it locked.

It has also been paused so no funds have been drawn from anyone while I haven't uploaded something.

However, I've missed doing content for Patreon and I feel it's time to get started again. Please note that I will not be able to make content every week, but I'll keep at it as often as possible, starting with making a "making of" video series of my case study "Marmorgatan" (image above). If you think it's not worth following even though my uploads may be a bit sporadic, there are of course no hard feelings if you decide not to follow anymore!

After that I'll let you decide if I should do more in depth fstorm rendering content like material creations etc (not my strongest side to be honest), or if I might move on making a complete course using V-Ray 4.0, is there any interest of that?

Please note that even though I'd bring Patreon up again, it will probably not be opened to new subscribers. I want to keep this exclusive to all of you guys that has been faithful Patrons since before!

Hi Johannes, have your fireplace room animation and fabric tutorials been removed? I had subscribed many months ago and remember viewing them but had to put Fstom aside as I had no time. I would like to subscribe and watch them again but I don't see any posts about them here now. Just want to make sure they are still up.

Greetings! I am in the process of getting FStorm, and since I can't afford the full Scandinavian Tutorial I would love if you do focus on some material creation, lighting or maybe even some exterior stuff? I've seen your incredible materials and shaders and considering it's one of the hardest things to master, I'd love some more content for it.

Hello Johannes, i was a patreon for 7 month last year but because of a credit card update problem last automn, i was denied access to all your patreon post even the one i paid for during my 20$ monthly sub. I really wasn't intended to leave i wanted to stay and continu to learn to watch and re-watch all the tutorials. I still do. Can you give me exceptionally a new acces to your patreon please? Nikola.

Thanks a lot Johannes, I'm really excited about you showing use some stuff about animations. Of course, when you talk about animations, you can't avoid Alex Roman. I think every CGI artist knows him, you can compare him to Yoda. It's incredible how high he set the bar 8/9 years ago! I would like to know what hardware he had ;) By the way, you can find his videos on Vimeo here: https://vimeo.com/user1337612 What would inspire me would be of course dolly rides but also effects like: • Camera: Changing the focus point, camera shake effects, lens flares etc. • Environment: wind effects, moving trees, sky, clouds, changing sun directions, fog, rain • Gravity: Falling/Exploding stuff • Editing and post production

I am opening a new sub on Patreon. Thank you for the feedback :)

Hey! :-) Glad you're having good use for it. I totally understand why adapting to FStorm is a problem for bigger studios. The thing is that I don't have super much experience with animation but I know my way around it and making videos about it would definitely mean that I'll learn more about it too so I don't mind. I would love some more input on what kind of animations though. Thank you for the kind words about my presentation by the way, really appreciated :-) Not sure if I'll attend the SoA this year but I've already booked my tickets to the D2 Conferences, and I'd love to meet :-)

Many are asking for animation. What would you like to see in terms of animations other than a breakdown of the "Welcome to my place" video? Architectural dollys and stuff, or anything specific?

Yeah, in the same time FStorm's shader system is very similar to Corona, so if it can be done in FStorm, it can be done in Corona (or any other). It is definitely fair to say that I'm committed to GPU-based renderers. I got the Vray 4 beta before christmas and got to leave some input (the redesigning of the render setup dialogue is basically my work), and I was happy with how the VRay GPU works, however I never really got pleased with the results I was getting in terms of tonemapping and lighting behaviour. Probably that was mostly because I didn't spend enough time with it really.

I'll make some replies to specific comments regarding specific things, but I've read all of your comments and appreciate them dearly :)

Shit I hit enter too soon. Regarding those who wish for Corona, the problem for me is that my PC is solely built for GPU rendering and my workstation would be a bottleneck when working with Corona. Then obviously Corona and V-Ray isn't my favourite renderers, so I'm just happy if I can stay with FStorm. And as someone mentioned, it's not really about the renderer, but rather the techniques and way of thinking. So anyway I've got a plan for the coming time, starting with explaining the "welcome to my place"-animation (I hope I still got the video material :D ), and then I'll start a new project focusing on both exterior and interior. It's a new thing for me that I've never done before, so we kind of "have to do it together". I might run into issues that I need help with too. I'll make a short video explaining my idea, and I don't think you will be disappointed as it'll involve a few things that was never covered/needed in the last series of videos.

Hi guys! Wow so many replies, I love it even if it takes a while to get through it all. :-) So I guess I'll stay with FStorm based on most peoples comments. But just as before, I'll try to keep things as general as possible so it's possible to follow with any renderer.

Vray 4 sounds fun, I have tried the beta and it looked quite good to be honest.

I would love to see some exteriors done this time ;)

I work in Corona so in my opinion Vray would be more common platform for other participants. Animations are very interesting to me.

hey Johannes, welcome back. Firstly I would say that 90% of your tutorial content focuses on non-FStorm specific techniques. I mean, the engine is just effortlessly doing it's thing. Probably the most Fstorm specific component is complex material generation only because Fstorm lacks support for 3ds max material types. So to that extent the value of your content is far beyond a specific engine. Is it fair to say that you are committed to GPU-based production? If that's the case I would not mind seeing you sticking to GPU-based renderers which could include VRayRT. What is your experience with Next beta so far? I was also really interested in your experience animating with Fstorm. Keep it up.

Dear Johannes, thanks a lot for this awesome state of the art arch viz course. I'm still learning and rewatching your videos when I have the time. There is nothing equivalent in the market in terms of quality. I love to play around with fstorm in my freetime. In the office we changed our workflow from vray to corona a few month ago, unfortunately it is not possible to bring in something else, so fstorm will stay at home. Anyway, you have shown us how to achieve wonderful visualizations with passion for detail and the necessary sensitivity for composition, materials and the right assets. I would now like to go one step further, in the direction of animations. This is an important and constantly growing market of the future and we can all benefit from your experience if you are willing to share it with us. Your film you showed at the Academy Days totally blew the audience away! In my opinion, your contribution was one of the best, if not the best of all. Too bad I didn't dare to chat with you. Maybe next year?;) To put it in a nutshell, I think it doesn't matter which engine you use as long as you can handle it. I think it makes sense to be able to use several engines, but I also think that working with animations will help us a lot more than another engine.

I would really like to see the patreon open again for a few people. your stuff is so amazing and I wasn't aware of that patreon a few years ago. I really dig your tutorial on youtube, do you have other people to suggest for learning Archviz if your not opening the Patreon again?

I love fstorm and the way you teach in your videos. I think It's more productive and interesting if you teach something you like. So if you feel more inspired by V-Ray 4.0, go on! Personally I'll keep follow you anyway. As I learnt from you: It's not the software but the experience. If the experience is over, it's time to move on.

There's lots of info about VRay true, but it's hard to find anything as in depth as Johannes' videos, and if you do it's from an old version of VRay that's hardly relevant anymore (like many of the Grant Warwick videos). I would love to see something more updated with VRay 4.0, because it's hopefully going to be a game changer.

please do fstorm projects. there is a lot of vray staff out there... ;-)

Maybe even in combination with Substance.

I agree with some of the others to stick with Fstorm. Plenty of other sites with tutorials for Vray or Corona. Would love to see some more in depth tuts on material creation like sss materials. Also would like to see how you create the textures for your own models as I always strugle with that. Keep up the good work.

and I think FStormRender is no longer available !!!

How about a Fresh Project with CoronaRenderer with Your touch ! and you promised that you'll do some in Corona in the beginning. Sorry for if I'm wrong ! thanks in advance !!!

Would love to see more FStorm stuff, not really interested in other render engines. Several short 5 min video's, each explaining different subjects. A more advanced material creation could be multiple video's, each explaining a different type of material. Maybe even in combination with Photoshop, Unwrapping stuff, etc. And making them available for download ofc.

I'd stick with Fstorm. Corona has its own excellent YouTube channel and there are loads of learning resources for vray these days. You are by far the best interior visualiser I have seen I have learned a tremendous amount watching your videos and my own images are getting better as a result of your instruction.

I'm here for the FStorm stuff only so I'm not interested in Vray or other things. Hopefully it stays that way.

I prefer Corona or Fstorm over vray

Let's give Corona some love too :)

Hey Johannes, for me more Fstorm content and making of will be great.Maybe you can share some assets and materials as before.

I would love something as in depth as your last series for vray. As much as I love fstorm, for now the company I work for is a vray shop.

vray stuff will be awesome too, if possible :) and I would love to see some material creations in fstorm. I think fabrics and plants are my biggest weakness.

Peter bučo

I am here to learn more about FStorm. But since I am working with Vray most of the Time I would not mind seeing your view on 4.0 either.

Thanks for the input :) Exterior renders is something I would love to do, although I'm not as comfortable in it yet as it takes me lots of trial and error before I get something I'm decently pleased with. I'll give it a shot though and then people can just tell me to stop if it gets embarresing :D

Nice! You are back, please do some animation content more fstorm or corona if you want to mix it up a little, vray it's not worth it anymore (at least for me)

Some exterior renders with Fstorm would be really cool. A Vray (or Corona) course would also be very helpful. Thank you for your hard work!

Nice to see you back Johannes! I think the majority of your Patreons are both: FStorm and VRay. Corona as well.

I should be grateful if you could make a tutorial about product studio lighting in smaller scale projects like bottles, packaging etc. Thank you Johannes about your ethos, honesty and your knowledge spreading! Keep it up!

Right, sorry I forgot about the "Welcome to my place" animation. Let's make that a Priority! I don't mind making more FStorm stuff. I believe most of my Patreons here are FStorm people anyway?

More FStorm content please especially animation/walkthrough style stuff which hasn't been covered much. Thanks!

Glad to see you’re back mate! Any of them would be great. What I’ve loved about your content is the principles and workflow behind all your images. Regardless of the rendering engine, I’m using Corona and I’m able to use all of the knowledge I’ve got from you. So Vray Next, Fstorm, Corona or anything you’re confortable with would be awesome. I would love to see also the process behind the “Welcome to my place” animation. Thanks a million!
