Rock doves are very versatile and intelligent. Finding new food sources would be nothing new to them. There are myriad flocks of pigeons who've made their homes in our national forests, who can easily feed themselves and their families. Not to say that the occassional hot dog left by the campfire goes to waste, but some would have found a way. Especially without humans.
