April Bonus Story #5 -- Audio
Added 2024-04-23 03:59:01 +0000 UTCJust a short and not-so-sweet story with Spencer to show a little extra love to my top tiers this month. More random bonus stuff coming in the next couple of months to keep making it special. Is there any bonus content like "ask me anythings" or reaction videos you'd like to see?
Nothing is out of the realm of possibility :)

i’m like 80% sure this story is just ragebait bc what reason does he have to write about this tiny interaction on reddit when he was getting coffee alone and the barista didn’t even make a big deal out of it😭 like if he’s walking away from this and ruminating on it so much so that he just HAD to write a reddit post about it, i feel like he’s an extremely untrustworthy narrator

You can say that comes with the territory of having them, but that doesn’t mean we have to always receive the recognition positively. It gets old. She loses nothing over him leaving; he’s spent so much emotional energy in the interaction and the post to reddit thereafter. She doesn’t have to engage in any more conversation than that required to conduct the transaction. We’re all people and the bottom line really doesn’t matter more than our boundaries, regardless of how much the customer and company demand. Also, I love your podcast and made sure to have a seat at your Houston show. However, this guest (they were on previous episodes too) is really not the greatest. Their responses are a little short-sighted and sometimes immature…

2024-04-25 04:34:22 +0000 UTCNot related to the story but some bonus content I would love (or even just a segment for guests in the regular episodes) would be like a “rapid fire” type game with that week or months top r/AskReddit questions where you and the guests give answers. I think this could be so entertaining and funny!

2024-04-25 00:10:45 +0000 UTCfirst off, as a barista myself i’d never act like that even on a really bad day. second, you’ve got someone with a fake account of y’all on tiktok @thtpodcast01 is the user

2024-04-24 23:53:19 +0000 UTCEven if he’s not a villain in the traditional sense, he’s still an asshole. He tried to make personal conversation while she was working and she wasn’t into it and wanted to keep working. When that happens, you don’t push the issue, you just move on and order. I’m usually chatty with customers when I have the time to be because I’m a chatty person, but that’s just me. Plus, a lot of managers hate seeing employees chatting with customers so for all we know, entertaining that conversation could have gotten her in trouble. She didn’t tell him to walk into oncoming traffic, she just didn’t talk about her tattoo, that’s not even rude.

2024-04-24 23:18:44 +0000 UTCMan, a lot of you are reaching based on information that wasn't even given. You're making assumptions to make him the villain. There were better ways she could've handled the situation without being rude :)

2024-04-24 17:42:54 +0000 UTCYeah I'm so curious how it went down. I love when trader joes workers do that. Apparently they try to comment about an item or talk to every customer. On my bad days it makes it so much better 🥺

2024-04-24 05:40:48 +0000 UTCThis vaguely reminded me of this video form tiktok where a girl was saying how the trader joes cashier asked her how her day was going and basically making small talk and she acted like it was the biggest inconvenience of her life and someone commented how out of touch people have become. like we're all humans and if someone genuinely wants to talk to you about your favorite show... then your day is not that bad. if this went down exactly as he said then hes not an asshole, if i was him this would also weigh on my mind so much, wondering what social cue i possibly missed

2024-04-23 23:05:07 +0000 UTCBaristas/ANYONE in customer service like this do not owe you conversation or engagement. She was not rude, she was simply doing her JOB. I can’t imagine if I was at my corporate job, actively working and someone was asking about my favorite show. I guarantee her day was unaffected and it clearly sat with the man enough to write a Reddit post.

2024-04-23 16:17:28 +0000 UTCHe was 100% the asshole even if he wasn’t hitting on her. It doesn’t seem like she was explicitly rude, she just wasn’t engaging in personal conversations with customers while she was at work. He seemed to think that a purchase must have entitled him to this girl talking to him. For a lot of men, baristas are such a fantasy because of how a lot of people interpret them as flirty. She probably just didn’t want to be interpreted that way. I am also inclined to believe that he was hitting on her because why would her not wanting to chat make him not want coffee if he was actually there for coffee? If he needed his caffeine fix, her not talking tattoos wouldn’t make him not need it anymore. He wasn’t there for coffee, he was there for conversation and a coffee shop doesn’t have those available for purchase.

2024-04-23 13:47:43 +0000 UTCI def think he was hitting on her, he said she was pretty and when she asked for his order he didn’t get the hint and doubled down about anime questions. The issue with hitting on people while they’re at work is that they can’t leave that situation if they feel uncomfortable. So yeah she was blunt, but I don’t think she was overtly rude. He’s NTA for canceling his order, he can leave. And agreed with what you said, it could’ve been rush hour and he’s taking up time from other customers.
